I have some Voodoo 1 and 2 cards I want to test but the only PC I have at hand is a Socket 754 Athlon 64. I know that 3V AGP cards like Voodoo 3 are out of the question but would this be an OK system to test voodoo 1 and 2 cards on? Are there any peculiarities and issues (due to CPU speed) I should be aware of?

If it is nForce3 you need not Windows XP, nF3 has Win9X driver. Just set FSB to 200 MHz and multiplier down to 4-5. It will be 800-1000 MHz CPU. Then install Windows 98.

Also keep in mind: the reference win9X drivers versions may sometimes cause issues when FSB frequency higher than 100 MHz. So if you see this try other unofficial "bug-fix" driver. Usually these issues may be with Voodoo1 and Voodoo2 SLI. Single Voodoo2 is working on high FSBs usually without problems.

Voodoo 1 - won't work.
Voodoo 2 - will work with community drivers.

You can test Voodoo 2 cards on Windows XP without any issues.

Neither card appeared in Device manager, the PCI Bus did not see them at all..

VIA K8T800 motherboard wlth Athlon64.

I replaced some missing caps on both so they may very well be dead but not showing up at all makes me think it is an issue with the motherboard being too new? Both cards got warm to the touch, Voodoo 1 uncomfortably so..

Couple of years ago i wanted to test the whole range of 3dfx cards and voodoo1 and rush did not work on my testbed: Asus Tusl2-c (intel 815) with 1400 Tualatin P3.

Even after setting the fsb to 66mhz to get 700mhz cpu none of these cards worked. I tested 5 voodoo1 cards and 2 Rush cards, all of them worked fine on a p200 mmx. So yes, they can be very speed sensitive or even platform sensitive?

btw most installed fine but just turned to black screen when used. Voodoo2 and up had no issues.

Earlier I plugged my Voodoo1 into i845 motherboard with FSB133(533) CPU 2,40 GHz and all was fine in Win98 and in WinXP with later community drivers.
