So. I went through eBay, to see if there were any games for Playstation2, worth buying. And I stumbeled on Futurama for Ps2. And the price really shocked me. Is it really worth 70 to 120 US Dollars? I mean.... I have it, and I really do NOT think that it is a good game. Slobby controls and tough to complete. So why that insane price?

As you probably know, video game prices are not always indicative of the rarity of a game. It is based on may factors like interest in the genre or characters in the game. In this case, a lot of people just want this game because it is a good game (regardless of how bad the controls are), not great, but good.

Also, more importantly, it is based on a cartoon series that people like as well, so you are going to have collectors interested in Futurama wanting the game as well as PS2 collectors and game collectors. Generally speaking, the cartoon series had a cult following and now it is cancelled (in 2013 I believe) and will probably never be available again, so anything Futurama instantly becomes a kind of collectible item that represents a certain time in pop culture. This is true of many video games...it's just the way it goes with this sort of thing. similarly, with Star Trek video games and Star Wars video games, prices are somewhat inflated because of the fact that not only gamers want the games, but also Star Wars and Star Trek collectors want them too...demand even extends to people that just collect movie memorabilia or lucasarts memorabilia, or 80's and 90's memorabilia, or toys, or whatever else....the list goes on and on

You are competing with many types of collectors and gamers with many interests....with a finite supply of these older items, it is inevitable that sometime prices of games will seem over-inflated, but it is not unreasonable as the marketplace eventually dictates the price.

the game is indeed worth $70-100US according to price charting:

Thanks...
Yup, that was a good show. I bought the game, because I am a fan my self and it was a point in time before streaming. So it was my only way of getting my kick of futurama at that point. I just remember how horrible that game was, once I tried it for the first time. Also the reason why I started to search for Robotech games for the Ps2. Even though one I have is in Japanese only, I still had to have it.

Just.... Damn... Those prices on Futurama are insane. 😮

It is insane for sure...way too much for that game in my opinion, but yeah, it just doesn't end with video game prices...I do not believe there will be a "video game crash" as some are predicting...prices will keep going up.
The interest is just not letting up. The younger and older demographic are just loving video game and pop culture stuff and I can't see it slowing down anytime soon.

I thought I remembered something about that game, It's rare on PS2 but common on xbox, or visa versa.
But quick google I can find both for about $10 US used copies but wouldn't have thought that would increase the price by that much

I have the Futurama game for the original XBox (the same game as for the PS2, it looks like), and it's not bad. It's certainly not great, but it's OK for fans of the TV series (me!), as it does evoke the feel of the TV series and is funny at times, and while it's not too memorable, it is fairly playable. The designers didn't aim very high with it, though, they no doubt either had a very strict deadline to meet, or they thought that since it would sell well enough on it's name, then there was no need to expend too much effort to make it a truly great game.

There are some collector items for sure. I'm usually willing to pay the equivalent of 5 euros tops for a PS2 game. I also bought for 1 euro, got a PS2 and 4 games for about 15. The time is right to collect for PS3 as well...
