How are your 9900K's power usage temps under full load?

I think it was maxing out at 72C running Prime @ 5Ghz, If I run 3 Cores at 5.0, 3 @ 4.8, and 2 at 4.7 its stays below 62C. Since all this gear is so new I'm not convinced that I've got all the power requirements dialed in as best as they could be yet, but in my opinion it runs pretty cool and I'm not sweating it. I've never even seen it run at stock, looking forward to messing with this more.

I'm waiting for the 144Hz Gsync HDR 32" 4K Monitors to come out then down to under 1k so currently I'm still running at 1080p @60Hz on a 40" Sony XBR-9.

Hm, not sure what's going on with my temps... under full load (re - Prime95, max heat) I'm getting around 80-82C on my 9700K and idle in the high 20s/early 30s. Upgraded cooler to a beefy be quiet! shadow rock II rated at 180W TDP and still the same...

Well rest easy knowing that Prime95 is a torture test and you are unlikely to see loads approaching that ever in real world use.

My 2080TI on any modern game will run right up to 85C and then stay from around 80-82C. I think its just set up to not care until it hits that thermal level, then it throttles down which honestly when I'm currently running at 60 FPS 1080p is really not necessary. Frame limiting FTW.

Seems everything now is desgined to run right up to it's envelopes, which I guess is a good thing, no one is squirelling away performance. Maybe when we start to see 7nm they may start not pushing hardware so hard again for gains? That would be artificial though anyways, why not run full-out?

Here are the specs of my current system:

i7-3770K 3.5GHz
Gigabyte GA-Z77-D3H (ver. 1.1)
16GB 1600MHz DDR3
GTX 980 Ti
128GB SSD
240GB SSD
1TB HDD

I built the first version of this system in 2010. Rather than buying or building a new PC, I've just continually upgraded this one - to the point that, now, the system is totally different except for the case and DVD drive. Some parts have been replaced multiple times; for example, it's had 4 different GPUs. Some of the parts in this system are getting old, but it's still pretty good for gaming and most other things. My current idea is that this will be the final version of this system. Once this system is no longer usable for me, I'll probably sell the entire system and then build an entirely new one.

Here's a picture of the system:

Here's the inside:

Here's my entire PC setup:

The monitor is an ASUS 27" 1440p LCD. The speakers are Bose Companion 5 computer speakers. Also on the desk is my MacBook, which is a Late-2013 Retina MacBook Pro. I also have a wireless 360 controller for this system.

This is my current workhorse which I have managed, with a few modifications, to get into a gateway G6-400 case in keeping with my love of the beige-box look. The Motherboard, GPU, some extra ram, and Gateway box were all "liberated" from recycle piles. PSU was a gift from a neighbor, and the hard drive was shucked from a new in box external from a thrift shop. Ended up being a pretty cheapo build and it works wonderfully for daily use.

Specs:

  • MSI X58 Pro-E
    i7 950
    8GB ram
    500GB seagate HDD
    Nvidia GeForce GTS 250

Logitech MX400? I loved those mice.

It's a Logitech M500 actually, but they look very similar. It's definitely a nice mouse. I had another one just like it that started having issues, but I liked that mouse so much that I just got another of the same model. This one has a new logo on it, though.

EVGA? I'm pretty sure I have that exact card in another PC. Fan had to be replaced a few years ago though.
