So the time has come for me to thin out the heard of AGP video cards.

For the time being I will be keeping everything that is Geforce and up as well as Radeon cards of the same speed and higher and all 3dfx cards as well as all not so common 3d accelerators.
Have a few Matrox cards I will keep as well.

What about older nVidia and ATI cards? Anything I should keep?

So you're not keeping anything like extra S3 Virge or TNT? Might convince me to do the same. I'm looking at a medium container full of working cards that I've tested and benchmarked. Though about putting them up for sale so other collector's can have a shot at them, rather than scrap them.

I'll probably keep at least one of each card I have for the time being. I just don't have any more space and need to get rid of some.

Not sure I need and S3 Virge in AGP though unless they are going to be the best as far as DOS VESA copatibility goes.

I'll probably keep a TNT2 or 2 and a TNT if I have one... just kinda went through my cards and I think I have one or two but they are dumb model numbers that I will have to look up to verify.

If you have a nice high memory pci S3 Virge or a S2000 keep them. They are pretty useful.

Main pc: Asus ROG 17. R9 5900HX, RTX 3070m, 16gb ddr4 3200, 1tb NVME.
Retro PC: Soyo P4S Dragon, 3gb ddr 266, 120gb Maxtor, Geforce Fx 5950 Ultra, SB Live! 5.1

I've got a TNT2 partly to represent that family, partly as it supports Win3x apparently. Doubt it'll ever get used more then a test card though.
Yes it has good dos support, but so do your early geforce and matrox cards.

In AGP I'd let these early cards go, PCI is obviously a different matter

What do you have exactly? And what do you anticipate doing with what is left?

Given my experience of having had a *massive* collection of PCI VGA cards but having had to dispose of it entirely before moving to a small apartment, I'd recommend considering the situation in 10 years time. Which would you kick yourself for having sold/given away? Which would most likely be impossible to replace.
I had both VRAM nVidia and DRAM ST nV1 cards, V5-5500 PCI, obscure Artist Designs & similar stuff, massive HP OpenGL accellerators...

What do I have... around 70+ AGP cards ranging from Trident, SIS, S3 all the way up to HD3850. I didn't even try to do an exact count.

I sorted through them all last night and the ones I am thinking of getting rid of are a bunch of (20-30+ cards in total):
ATI Rage 128 and Rage 128 Pro
nVidia TNT2 M64 and Vanta

They all came to me in lots of other cards and some were given to me by friends and family.

Pretty sure I won't kick myself about getting rid of any of these.. but I have thought that in the past.

I do have a few regular TNT and TNT2 cards I'll be keeping as well as probably 1 or 2 Rage 128 Pro cards.

Planning on keeping everything else for now.

Tbh, I wouldn't bother with any AGP M64/Vanta if I had an Ultra (which I do, and will probably be getting rid of too in the not so distant future...). It's the same features, just slower. The only kind of M64 that really adds something is the PCI version, but that's offtopic here.

Keep a TNT2, a couple of geforce 2 and 4 era cards, an S3 and anything 3dfx. Ati and matrox are really not worth keeping unless you have some very unique or nostalgic cards.
Some higher end 'last of an era' cards, like the fx5900 ultra, are also worth keeping but anything newer where there is a pci express version, the AGP one usually isn't worth keeping

I disagree. Keep any Matrox G400 MAX, Parhelia cards and any ATI Rage 128PRO and Fury MAXX cards.

Mmhmm. Hard to help you decide what to keep if we don't know what you have.

At least post photos of your collection if you don't want to list every card? That way we can pretend this is "Bought these (retro) hardware today" and point out potentially interesting or unique cards.

OK, let's see...

I'll be pretty brutal here and only suggest keeping the most high-end of a particular series unless the remainder are particularly collectible.

Keep:
1 HD3850
1 7800GS
1 x850xt
ATI FireGL X2
1 Radeon 9250
1 Voodoo 3 3000, a 3500, 1 2000, 1000
1 Voodoo 5 5500
1 3dfx Banshee
Rage Fury MAXX
A G450
Hercules 3d Prophet 4500 (Kyro II)
1 Riva 128
Radeon (SDRAM)
1 TNT
1 TNT2
FX 5700LE
Quadro 2 MXR
Geforce 2 GTS, Geforce 2 Ultra (not sure if either of these work.. been a while since I messed with them and I forget the results.) - test and keep the best working one
1 Geforce 3 or Geforce 3 Ti 200
1 Geforce 4 MX 440
Geforce 4 Ti 4600
1 Quadro 4 (not sure of exact model right now)
Quadro FX... the one that is the same as a FX 5900 or FX5950
Radeon 8500LE
1 9800, not sure of exact numbers right now but I have Pro and XT I believe.
Radeon x1650 Pro
Radeon x1050 ? - typo that should be x1950?
Trident Blade 3d (I think)
1 SiS6326
A Cirrus Logic card.. forget the model number.
S3 Savage 4 Pro
Permedia 2
1 Rage 128 Pro Ultra[/quote]

And even then it's probably too much...

Of course, specific cards might be worth keeping regardless of the chips on them, but based on the chips I'd say this is already overdoing it.

Despite the naming, the g100 and g450 are clearly not the same series, and on those terms the g100 is the high-end one to keep. I'd personally still keep the mystique alongside it, too, but that's neither here nor there.

🤣.. I'm not going to be throwing anything away. Getting rid of = selling or giving away.

I just recently bought the Rage Fury MAXX.
