Hi!
I'm getting laggy keypresses (about half a second) in the dos shell in v0.63, unless I enable frameskip 1.

This does not happen in v0.62.

Using default settings after using the installer. (both 0.63 and 0.62) Windows version.

My system specs: Windows XP SP2, Intel Pentium M 1.73ghz, 1gb ram, 100gb hd, ATI Mobility Radeon x700XL, Realtek HD Audio.

hmm sounds like a graphics card problem.
try a different output setting.

Ooo quick reply 😀

Tried all output modes.. no improvement. As I mentioned, 0.62 works with no frameskip though.

Graphics card's quite good actually, runs FEAR maxed out, only with 1024,768 doublepixel..

well the fact that frameskip=1 solves it indicates a graphics problem.

try using the sdl.dll from 0.62 with the 0.63 version

Oh well, doesn't really matter that much to me, as the game I tried, Tyrian2k, doesn't play very well without frameskip 1 in either 0.62 or 0.63.

Weird tho, as the commandline worked perfectly without frameskip with a crappy integrated intel gfx card.

If you think this is an issue with my gfx card, I'd be happy to run some tests for you.

Just let me know, could be done on IRC or something.
I'm at work right now though, but I'm finished around 21:00, norwegian time :p

Would it be meaningful to test a CVS build to see if this has already been fixed? A newer version of SDL.dll may be worth testing as well, as there has been a lot of SDL development lately.

Ah. Well yeah if you have a release candidate then that would probably be the one to test 😀

norki: a) Try decreasing CPU cycles; b) Make sure that you don't have output set to opengl -- use surface.

Ok I've registered.

I've found that it's not only the text that's laggy, but also function keys
like CTRL+F11 and CTRL+F12

norki: When in windowed mode, do you have any or all of the DOSBox window on a secondary monitor? If so, does it still lag when the entire DOSBox window is confined to the primary monitor only?

HunterZ: no additional monitors here, just playing on my notebook's panel..

OT: what's the recommended system specs for playing games like Seek and Destroy and One Must Fall? I've got a Pentium M 740 1.73ghz, which should translate into a P4 ~2.5ghz. Finding it hard to fine tune my games :p

should be more than adeaquate.
I play omf myself on a 1800 XP (so 1.5 GHZ)

You wouldn't happen to have any cpu throthling on your laptop ? (which "saves" energy by making the cpu running slower ?) Those are incompatible with dosbox.
