Hey guys,
EDIT: assuming the cards that will be installed [VLB and/or PCI svga and probably controller(s)] are able to hold 40 MHz without wait states, and
assuming one wants:
• to set the FSB at 40 MHz, stably
• to install an AM486 DX4-120 WB CPU set at 120 MHz
• no PCI or VLB slots wait-states or downclocking to things like 27 MHz or things like that
• a plain 40:40:120 PCI:FSB:CPU setting, stable
• non-waitstated double banked L2 cache (what type is the best and fastest?)
• non-waitstated FPM RAM (possibly 60 ns? if not, what type?)
EDIT: • a non-waitstated built-in IDEx2 controller running also at 40 MHz
What would the 2 choice motherboards be?
EDIT: what would great 40 MHz-stable VLB and PCI svga cards be, that are still great under DOS, including DOS games (let's say up to about 1995ish) and also under Windows 3.xx and Win games, same period?
I was thinking, an S3 805 or maybe an ATI Mach 32 should be great under both DOS and Win. Correct? Any different suggestion?
Thanks
