Good point and probably a better solution for someone more seriously into retro capture . As it stands, the XP machine I have is a fairly recent i3 based system that runs legacy PCI through an early revision Asmedia PCI bridge and those are known to have issues .
If I did not already have the Elgato, I would likely consider the Datapath (though shipping makes it more than twice that $30 in my neck of the woods).
Finally, I prefer an external solution that I can run off of any modern USB 3.0 desktop or laptop . Capturing on a desktop legacy systems has its charm though (I run an Aja Kona LHe on a dedicated 10-year old Windows 7 system that will never get upgraded).
