ASRock 4CoreDual-SATA2 strikes again, this time with an E7600, the fastest dual core CPU it supports.

This is a very slow board. A 3.06GHz Core 2 should be faster than this. In fact, it's not much faster than the record breaking S939 score I wrote about a few posts above. That system was running Doom3 at 1920x1440 with 4x AA at a whopping 196.2 fps!

P6 chip. Triple the speed of the Pentium.

The Socket 939 score was indeed nice! I added the new score with the 4CoreDual-SATA2 to the list. 😀

What audio system does Doom 3 1.0 use? Does it have any notable performance hit?

Do not refrain from refusing to stop hindering yourself from the opposite of watching nothing other than that which is by no means porn.

I not not really know if there is a huge performance hit. I guess you will gain a few FPS using an Audigy 2 over the bult in audio in most cases, especially with period correct systems.

220.4 fps, Core i7 980X @ 4297MHz, GeForce 7900 GTX 650/1700, 12GB DDR3-1953 CL9-10-9-24, Aureal Vortex 2, Win 98SE.

You can run at least timedemo Doom 3 on Windows 98 SE (no artfacts as far as I could see).

Few tips :
1) For guys who want it to work, just use no-CD patch with included 98 fix.
I used v1.3 of the game (because I could only find v1.3 patcher and v1.3 no-CD w/98 fix).
2) This setup had no lag when loading game menu 😀
3) My Windows 98SE refused to even load with over 1GB on this platform.
I had to use R. Loew's patch, to get 12GB of RAM to work as 3GB I added it on top of HIMEMX (instead of standard HIMEM) as "just in case", since 12GB is kinda insane number for 98 SE 😁
For 1GB RAM worked fine without that patch (but my 2x512MB kit sucks compared to 4x2GB/4x4GB DDR3 sets I own).

I gave it a go on an Asus A8V with an A64 3500+, 2GB of DDR400 and Radeon x800pro (16pixel pipelines enabled with bios mod) at sock clocks (475/450) and I got 90.5FPS. I ended up overclocking it a bit to 2500MHz, 500MHz DDR, and the X800pro to 520/560 and it got 106.3.

Edit: This was at 1024x768 and ultra settings

Haswell's HD4600 integrated graphics in a Lenovo ThinkCentre. I'm actually very impressed with the performance! Keep in mind this is using cheap CL11 DDR3-1600; it would probably do much better with DDR3-2400, but I was too lazy to borrow that RAM from my main system.

I just noticed that we can edit again! All hail the return of the edit button! (It was probably many months ago but I have been buisy.)

Most scores are updated. Some scores are missing motherboard information so I skipped those for now.

I bought a cheap Asus P5B Deluxe P965 + E6600 + 2x1GB DDR2-800 bundle for £12.70 on Ebay with cheap shipping. The board has a couple of vented (non VRM) caps not visable in the seller pictures (not that I can complain for that price) so I thought that I would test the board to see if it works fine as is or if I have to recap it. I also have a few CPUs and video cards that I need to test. I started with a Core 2 X6800 I bought a week ago and a Geforce 7950 GX2 I bought years ago but never got to testing.

I did a quick overclock with the CPU at 3.6GHz, the memory at 1000 MHz and the 7950 GX2 at 600 core 800 memory. Everything is stable so I guess those vented caps near the PCI-slot populated by the X-Fi card aren't crucial.

Here is a picture showing the P5B Deluxe test system. The extra fans cooling the video card are not really needed and turned down to low with the fan controller. I thought the 7950 GX2 would run hot but this one dosn't seem to run hotter than other Geforce 7 series cards. I also thought I would need more voltage to get the memory to where I wanted it but 1000 MHz with 4-4-4-12 timings only took 2.1V so the fan cooling the memory was't really needed either. The CPU is more or less running 3.6 at stock voltage with only a little extra added to offset drop and droop.

Nice to see that a true July 2006 "Conroe launch" system can beat both phils i7 3770 system and MrEWhites i7 7700 system when it comes to Doom 3 even if it mostly is because they run newer OS and/or Doom 3 versions.

I will try to actually get to replacing more of the scores I have posted with the 1.3 Doom 3 version with (hopefully better) scores set with the 1.0 Doom 3 version. It's a bit strange to see the dual Opteron 248 system on top in the stock period correct list when we all know the FX55 should be way faster.

the OC on the 6100 is 40% in terms of clock but the performance gain is around 10-15%, the IGP is very limited by memory interface (memory controller is on the CPU, Hyper Transport).
also the 6100 plays the game very well once I lower the res to 640x480, I can keep shadows and all effects enabled and it plays mostly above 30FPS from what I tested, looks pretty nice, with the GMA 950 it's never really comfortable to play, 640x480 all low gives me around 57FPS avg for the 6100 and 23 to the GMA 950!

I'm still messing with the Asus P5B Deluxe when I have time to spare... which is not very often...

I tested another X6800 CPU today, this time with a working Geforce 8800 GTX card. It's best to emphasize working as I have a big pile of non working 8800 GTX cards, it's their defult state it seems...

Changing out the overclocked Geforce 7950 GX2 for an overclocked 8800 GTX with all other hardware and settings the same added less than 20 FPS. I doubt adding another 8800 GTX and finding an Intel friendly SLI-driver would be worth my time... Getting the CPU to ~4 GHz would probably be a safer bet if I want a substantially better score with year 2006 hardware.

I got rid of the extra fans as nothing is running hot anyhow. Using only a single molex cable with two molex to PCI-E 6-pin adapters is the best way to power power hungry video cards...

I finally found an X-Fi and gigabit NIC capable of 38.75MHz operation, so I was finally able to crank the FSB up to 155MHz. The BIOS on this motherboard doesn't have nice 1MHz increments; it's either 150 or 155MHz 🙄 ).
I also installed WinXP Media Center Edition 2005, long my favourite version of XP.

The Doom 3 score @ 1628MHz is only 1.5 fps faster than my old score @ 1575MHz. I believe this is because XP-MCE adds a bit of overhead. My old score was done on XP Pro with a bunch of services disabled. This new score was done on a stock MCE 2005 install with nothing disabled.

was playing around a little with the FX5900SE because some of the results on the first page looked a little odd,
I tested 1.0 and 1.31, drivers 66.93, 93.71 and 175.19 and tbh the difference was not worth talking about they were mostly giving me 31-32FPS regardless,
one thing that is "magical" is disabling anisotropic filtering on the nvidia control panel, instant bump to 45+FPS, but I think it kind of defeats the purpose because it's no longer Ultra, but for playing the game I think it's worth keeping that off in an FX, oh well, it's not the first time I noticed the FX kind of tanks with AF, while Geforce 6 and the Radeons not really.

32.6 FPS, SPBHM, Pentium 4 2.4GHz@3GHz, Asus P4PE, 1GB DDR 333 CL2 Single, FX5900SE 400/700 93.71, XP SP3, Onboard Audio
