Hi,

as I ran out of Joystick-MIDI cables, and promised a friend to make a solution for him.
I had this small run (12pcs) of DB15MIDI PCB's produced.
It is a simple PCB that allows to connect 2 MIDI modules to your DB15 joystick port.
Connectors :
- DB15 (Joystick MIDI)
- 2 x DIN connector (MIDI OUT)

It works well for my setup, but I'd love some more feedback :
- does it work fine for you ?
- is the form factor OK ?
- does it need a 3d printed enclosure ?

So I am giving 8 of these away with purchase of any product from my webshop.

Not sure about the form factor, and yes, it needs an enclosure of some kind. I think turning it into a "all in the cable" device instead of a box type device would probably be more usable, at least for me personally it would. Perhaps it's a girly thing, but I'm not that fond of exposed PCBs on the outside of the computer case.

WinXP : PIII 1.4GHz, 512MB RAM, 73GB SCSI HDD, Matrox Parhelia, SB Audigy 2.
Win98se : K6-3+ 500MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB HDD, Matrox Millennium G400 MAX, Voodoo 2, SW1000XG.
DOS6.22 : Intel DX4, 64MB RAM, 1.6GB HDD, Diamond Stealth64 DRAM, GUS 1MB, SB16.

Would it fit in the bottommost slots ? I think the PCB will touch the metal edge on the bottom in most computer cases.

I imagine a version in a DB15 shell with 2x MIDI cables coming out to be more useful, you could probably just cut an existing MIDI cable in half and connect to a PCB in the shell. Should result in a pretty ok solution, similar to the LPT devices.

I have a Gravis GamePad Pro. Can I plug the DB15MIDI *after* the GamePad into a soundcard and have them both work?

Finally found the time to try out the 3d print enclosure design by kaide79 :
it looks and feels great --> see photos

I will also add this cover as option on the webshop - https://www.serdashop.com/DB15MIDI

There is the option to use a non-angled 15-pin DB15 connector, and solder the PCB between the two rows of the pins. That should enable the adapter to be pluggable in any slot. The big DIN-5 connectors still would collide with a plug on a neighbouring card. One could produce the board in two orientations, so that the DIN-5 plugs block either the card above or the card below the sound card. I don't expect differentiating this product into two variants is economically viable though.

I am a happy owner of a "DB15 to 2 x MIDI out adapter". I need to connect it to a mini-DB15 laptop connector with dupont cables, because I don't have the original cable.

Could you tell me the minimum number of pins that I need to use, please?

Thanks!
