Lately I have been using Thunderbird 1.0.8 on Windows 9x. It works, but it is rather slow - even on a Pentium III, it just doesn't feel snappy, and on a Pentium/MMX it is downright sluggish.

So far I have found "JBMail" which works well, but will not render any of the HTML. So it works for bare-bones access but I'm looking for something a little more fully featured.

Can anyone recommend something that can still connect to Gmail? I know Outlook Express 5.5 works but I definitely do not want to install Internet Explorer 5.

Which version?? I have 4.8, and it refuses to connect to Gmail (SSL is too new!)

That's the issue with most old email clients; they cannot connect to new email servers due to outdated security.
