Is it possible to detect the most effective cycles for a game? Is it also possible to emulate the recommended specs for a game with the cycles in the config file (what is the conversion rate cycles to mhz)?

I ask because games like mechwarrior 2 don't function properly (100%) even with the auto setting (jumpjets won't recharge).

There is a benchmark program that allows you to see the emulated CPU speed in realtime.
http://www.oldskool.org/pc/benchmark

But I can't tell about the accuracy, maybe other benchmark programs are suited better for Dosbox.

I manually adjust cycles to find the minimum amount where no further improvement in playability or visual smoothness can be seen. I then record it as part of the games' startup config. I've done this for about 560 games in my library; happy to run a dump for you.

Yea, thats what I do as well: I was hoping for an easier way.

Does anyone know the conversion rate between cycles and cpu mhz or does it not work like that?
