The CSP is just another acronym for the Advanced Signal Processor or ASP chip.
Some Creative cards came with the chip soldered, other with it socketed and some with an empty socket, giving you the option to upgrade at a later stage.

However, based on what I've read, game support for this chip was non existent and very few software supported it.

I am using this Sound Blaster 16 install cdrom.
http://www.vogonsdrivers.com/getfile.php?file … 800&menustate=0

But I get an error message during install and install will not complete.
Error reads "Need to install configuration manager first".
In red error message box.

IIRC the 2950 is a PnP card?

If so, then you need to install the Creative Technology Configuration Manager (CTCM) first before you are able to install the drivers.

What is being set with jumpers on the older cards (address, irq, etc.) has to be set with the CTCM utility before the drivers can initialize.

It might be set to an unusual address that is not selectable. Try installing the CTCM config manager first, like the driver wants and then try reinstalling the driver. This procedure has to be done with my CT2980

Try downloading the AWE64 drivers, since all AWE64 cards are PnP and the drivers should work across the entire SB16 range.

The problem i have is that i can not get any sound cards to work because the port addresses are not available.

I just went with Win95. Turns out I was having port address conflicts with a serial or parallel port.
Not sure which one but I have resolved the problem. Just had to reassign the ports a new address in the bios.
