Just received some DIY goodies from Tiido to maximize my mega-pc:

IDG7P7ml.jpg

- 4x 4MB/60ns simms for a total of 16MB
- 3x 12ns SRAM for a total of 64kb
both the max supported by the system

excellent stuff - just need to solder 😀

30-pin SIMMs suddenly became rare enough to justify new manufacturing?
Well, the 16 MB variety surely is rare, but 4 MB?

Where is that for sale?

If you are in USA the 4MB 60ns sticks are pretty cheap to get but pretty much nobody sells them in EU and buying from USA will end up more than twice the cost due to ridiculously high shipping costs over there and import taxes that come on top aswell.

They're not yet for sale but soon will be. Keropi helped to make it happen so he got first dibs 🤣

I thought about making my own custom SIMM30s a few years ago, but my interest in particullar systems, that were using these SIMMs, dropped, so did the motivation to make the PCBs. Which PCB manufacturing company did you choose to place an order, Tiido?

I have been using JLCPCB for years, I think I have got some 1000 boards from them by now 🤣

Are you going to make 16 MB ones as well?
There may be some demand: for AWE32, late 386, many 486...
And they are rare - in Poland, I've only found them for 77 USD/pair.

16MB ones I'd like to do but there's difficulties sourcing parts for them, these very large DRAM chips are uncommon and quite expensive but definitely not 77usd/pair expensive 🤣.

Fair use/fair dealing exception

Just bought this last week and a new motherboard for it yesterday. PSU jack on 3 layer motherboard was having issues, and needs a hinge fix......epoxy time.

1994 NEC Versa 40EC
- i486 DX-2/40
- 8MB of RAM (4 onboard, 4 on exp. card)
- 1.44MB Floppy
- 250MB HDD
- WD 512k SVGA on 7.5" color LCD ( working)
- 2x PCMCIA slots
- orig. Power supply
- probably the original NiMH battery

Issues
- cracked hinge mount on top cover....probably from overly stiff hinge mechanism

- bad system board in power section. Would try and power on after 1st reassembly (Status LCD showing battery symbols in various states). Found a replacement for $20...but keeping the old one to attemt to fix as well. Did boot twice without HDD, FDD, or Battery, but stopped once position changed. Seems the problem is jack related (burned cont pin on jack on laptop per charger pinout & Versa P svc manual).

Future Plans
- 16MB memory card
- 80 GB HDD
- new 2430 CMOS battery
- new or rebuild Suspend Battery
- new or restore main battery
- PCMCIA LAN
- PCMCIA wifi
- carrying case
- FreeDOS with WFWG 3.11

That's crazy. You can still get them new here in the USA. And they are max around $10 each.

If you buy multiple, you can get down to $9 each.

Just a few listings on eBay.

You can even get 32MB 30 pin simms for only $6.99 each - used:

A lot of those listings offer worldwide shipping as well.

Ahh, so they are more common in Macs than in PCs, right?
That would explain their rarity in this area - Apple stuff was almost non-existent in that era.

72-pin SIMMs cost pennies.

And all of those links have shipping cost that lingers around 30usd+, and once they arrive here I'll have to pay 20...30usd in import taxes, so it makes them completely uneconomical, to a point it is much cheaper for me to make my own. I imagine shipping won't be much different for other EU countries and import taxes probably are similar if not worse also...

We have the same problem here as well - shipping+tax just make it not worth. Tiido's solution is a most welcome one for EU people.

That is indeed not good for Europeans that would be interested in acquiring some. If there is ever a plan to also distribute from Europe due to this, give me a shout. I could help.

I did it again! (Dumbness strikes again!)

Instead of replying to a post by Tiido, I have accidentially reported it!

This is the third time this happened to me, I really should take more caution.

To the Staff: Please ignore/delete my recent report filing of Tiido's reply. It was a mistake.
