VOGONS

As evidenced by the topic title, I've been having some trouble getting a few games to run on my retro computer.

I don't think it's the video card, because I've tried both a Voodoo 3 1000 and Voodoo 3 3000; both the games in question hung up at the main menu with music playing in the background.

So, my question is this: What could be causing this? The CPU (a Pentium II)? Windows 98 acting up*? Incorrectly installed drivers**?

*I installed Windows 98 to drive letter "E:\", but not sure if that's the problem.

**I used the updated driver files from Phil's Computer Lab website, but maybe I was supposed to use the disc first?

why have you installed windows in the e drive? to me that's a problem
many older games and os'es had problems when starting or working on other drives

then the best approach would be to make the c drive to be for windows 98se, and any other drive letter for another os

Are these games super rare or naughty, or what's the reason for not telling us the names of them? It's not really possible to help you if you don't tell us which games are actually causing problems. There are quite a few games that come into my mind that don't work with a Voodoo3 unless patched, NFS3 and NFS4 for example. They behave exactly as you described. So what are the games?

The two games in question, that I've tried so far, anyways, are Frogger, and Rogue Squadron.
