I know it's overkill but wanting to get some DOS games running on my win98 system (see sig) and dukenukem3d
is not cooperating as starting it just gets a black screen. Upon hitting the "windows" button I can then opt out of it.
I noticed starting the install it was going to be weird, black screen at first then hit cntrl-alt-del, then the install
screen appears so it installed ok after that. Ran the setup with sound/video (800x600) which didn't show any
problems but in the end the game won't start, just get a black screen.

The quadro card only has DVI, and the monitor is a square 19" Acer LCD with 1280x1024 max. res. Could scrap the
Quadro and stick in a GF2, Diamond Viper 770 Ultra, Real 3D Starfighter but I'm stubborn so there's that. Anyone
been done this road and can offer some tips?

Are you open minded about source ports? If yes, you can try either JFDuke3D with OpenGL renderer or xDuke with SW renderer only.

Socket 775 - ASRock 4CoreDual-VSTA, Pentium E6500K, 4GB RAM, Radeon 9800XT, ESS Solo-1, Win 98/XP
Socket A - Chaintech CT-7AIA, AMD Athlon XP 2400+, 1GB RAM, Radeon 9600XT, ESS ES1869F, Win 98

Actually I use Eduke32 on my XP rig, works well. Believe I tried jonof's version and it was kind of slow on my win98 rig, probably need a tualatin to pull that off.

Guess you could try testing the VESA modes in real DOS first to verify the card supports them.

eDuke32 is go to source port for XP and up, but those recommended by me should work on Win 98.

Use a dvi - vga adapter and a vga cable instead.. DVI is a bit funny with older setups

I have one of those, will try it out and post the results.

Well, tried the adapter and the game started then froze at the duke nukem "emblem". I've seen time and again on this forum where others have a geforce4 ti card but have no problems running DOS games. What am I missing here?
