That I was building a Socket 7 machine.

And for some strange reason I was having to explain to my mom the difference between an AT and an ATX power supply.

Post your retro tech related dreams here 🤣

I will admit I've had more than my fair share of dreams involving finding or coming across the opportunity to obtain hardware or software for free.

The disappointment is real when waking up.

I had a repeat dream over the years where I was sitting at my computer, then I would shut it down, but it just wouldn't turn off!! It scared the shit out of dream-me.

Last night I dreamt that I was walking through this backyard that was all dirt, no grass, and there were lots and lots of computers, strpped down, like they were garbage someone left there. I then began looking around to see if I could pick up anything interesting, when some folks walking nearby warned me that this was someone's crypto mining farm (!!!). I then noticed there were some power cords running throuhg to all these computers; my rational mind started to analyze the scenary, and I realized there was no LAN cable connected to those computers, and also they were all passively cooled, how in the hell could this be a crypto mining farm?? Nonsense, I thought to myself. Then I woke up right after that 😀

I've had some dreams where I'm standing in the office of developers of software I have to use, letting them know exactly what I think of their "helpful" design choices. Yelling always ensues, and sometimes it devolves into a full-blown fistfight. Those are good dreams.

(I'm actually not kidding here, this has come up at least a few times. One I remember from a couple days ago had me trying to find a vital piece of info on a social media feed, which had vanished into the ether as soon as it left my screen, and no amount of infinite-scrolling or reloading would bring it back. I was holding my phone in front of some nameless company drone's face and screaming "do you see how your algorithm works?! DO YOU SEE?!" and specifically recall making the point that forums did this better 20 years ago. Maybe I need to depart from the internet for a while...)

While a retro PC of mine (Libretto 50CT) was in transit, I had quite possibly the strangest dream of any of these already very strange dreams listed here. I dare you to dream something weirder than this.

In my house, an episode of Judge Judy was being filmed. My bedroom must've been connected to the courtroom or something, or maybe my entire house, it's hard to describe. I walked into my bedroom and discovered that my PC had been delivered. I opened it up, and realized that it was snapped in two. I proceeded to scream at various people who happened to be in my house at that time. That resulted in me being escorted out of my own house.

Bonus dream: It was the crack of dawn, and I was in a room that resembled my old bedroom and living room mixed together. All the windows were open. I was walking around, trying to decide which wall to put my Presario 425 up against, when I realized its power light was on. "Strange", I thought to myself. This machine has a hard power switch. I pressed the power button, the screen was totally white, the hard drive light was red, and it was making some kind of horrible death noise. I woke up and screamed.

I have dreamt of a Raspberry PI like small X86 comatible computer with a S3 Trio and ESS audiodrive. Nothing fancy. 😊

I am aroused about any X86 motherboard that has full functional ISA slot. I think i have problem. Not really into that original (Turbo) XT,286,386 and CGA/EGA stuff. So just a DOS nut.

Ask a Physicist to explain where dreams come from ?
They are NOT dreams they are communication with the other side.
Visions.
They know our future by Hundreds of years.
Dreams are usually about something you did or something that is going to happen.
They are watching us.....
These Visions are for you only. You should keep them to yourself and be quiet about it.

Do NOT change the channel
[etc. nonsense removed.]

Hi. I AM a physicist and that is sheer, unadulterated bullshit. Kindly do not confuse my scientific profession with "mystic" or "woo-woo salesman."

I used to have a similar dream about my old CRT TV long ago that scared me too. What really scared me was when it happened in real life. I went to unplug a console or something and accidentally pulled the plug for the TV. It stayed on for a good 5 seconds, long enough for me to realise which plug I was holding and freeze in horror. 🤣

Duuuude! I know right? In my dreams, this always happens with AT computers which are hard switches. Then I would try and unplug them and they would still be on.....

Funnily enough, I haven't experienced this (yet). Although, multiple times, I have dreamt of AT computers in standby or in some other low-power mode while the switch was off.

I know one of the signs to look out for if you want to lucid dream is light switches not working. I think the primitive layers of the brain still alert during REM sleep don't understand logic - something as basic as an electrical switch is still vastly more recent compared to the evolutionary development of the human brain.

Huh! Come to think of it, I've had a few "unplugged but still powered on" dreams too. Apparently part of my brain isn't aware of that connection, while another part of my brain -- even in dreamland -- is very much aware that that shouldn't happen.

I hate it when lights will not come on when I am dreaming... usually turns into some sort of nightmare type dream when that happens. That and doors that have too big of a gap between the door and the frame so the door won't latch and is also unable to be locked.

I think stuff like that reveals one of our basic fears: that the world somehow doesn't make sense.

We want the world to be logical and rational, and in the dream when it turns out to be not so, we freak out.

A lot of modern art tries to do the same thing and mess with your perception of reality by portraying it as illogical and irrational. It's not healthy for the mind in my opinion.

I would have that it's the rational part of your brain disagreeing with the irrational part of your brain, where there's usually an external force (physics, reality, etc.) providing the scenery. In the case of a dream, the irrational part has free reign to craft the movie any way it would like to, and the rational part is like "let me off!!1!"
