I have recently acquired a 486 DX2/66 and, after much hard work, have worked it up to DOS 6.22, Windows 3.1, 12 MB RAM, a triple-speed (at least that's what the Space Quest collection system test said it was) CD-ROM drive, a Music Quest MPU-401 card, a Zoltrix Sound Blaster Pro compatible card, as well as messed with the config.sys and autoexec.bat files for adequate memory management so having enough free memory is not going to be my problem.
I'm trying to get Warcraft 2 working (I know it can run on at least a 486 33 Mhz so I surpass its requirements), but this happens for all my SVGA games as well. I try to run SETUP.EXE and it says "Loading....." and then it drops to my command prompt directly beneath that and hangs (cursor blinks but I can't type or even CTRl+ALT+DEL). I don't fully understand this because the setup program runs in only 320x240 resolution and it's the game that runs in 640x480.
However this also happens for any other SVGA game (640x480 or over) I try to play ie- Space Quest 6, King's Quest 7, etc. I also had a hard time finding a display driver for Windows 3.1 for the graphics card. I had to search everywhere online for it but finally found one that works up to 1024x768 in 256 color mode (I can also go to true color mode but it only let's me go to 640x480).
I know very little about the graphics card other than it's ISA and it's very long (plugs into the ISA slot and also a brown slot beneath the ISA slot, don't know the name of that one), it's VESA compatible (I don't know at what level, though), and the writing on the chip on the card itself says "Trident TGUI9440".
I don't know how much memory it has (256k, 512k, 768k, 1Mb, 2MB, etc) and I don't know how to find out. I haven't been able to find any documents or other information about the card at all on the internet.
Also, this problem might be a completely unrelated to the video card, but it doesn't take away from the fact that no other SVGA game will work properly. I've considered the possiblity that I may need a DOS TRS driver to run before I play SVGA games but I haven't been able to find any DOS drivers anywhere.
Oh, I also tried running UNIVBE but it wouldn't work because it said it wasn't compatible with my video card (even though the TGUI9440 is listed in its compatibility list).
Any and all help is appreciated, thank you.
