I am working with a Pentium 75 machine running Windows 98. Currently it has an IDE/CF adapter and all is well.

I am attempting to install a second identical IDE/CF with the identical CF card. It is set to Slave and positioned in the middle of the IDE cable. The bios sees the card and fills in the geometry correctly. However, upon booting, the message, “operating system not found” appears. If I remove the adapter and second drive from the bios, all is as it was before.

Any thoughts? Thank you.

Most CF cards do not work as master/slave but only as single drive. I only had luck with 1 GB cards from Toshiba, they worked reliable.

Thank you for the insight. I agree, the Toshiba cards do seem to be the most reliable.
