I have a shuttle AV18E2 motherboard and the white ide connetor gives the following error no 80 pin conductor cable installed. I have already used several 80 pin ID cables, but nothing helps to get the message out. The hard drives that I connect to the white ide port are also very slow due to this message. The other blue ide port is working fine.

Who knows what I can do to fix this or is the motherboard broken?

I would like to use that motherboard to install Windows 98se to play old games.

Check for bloated caps?

You can plug the other drive in the Primary, and just not use that IDE port. BIOS should have an option to not halt on errors. Should be on the first page.

I have the same problem with my Shuttle HOT-675V motherboard. I know that all of the capacitors are good because I replaced them all myself with genuine Nichicons.

This is super annoying.

I tried shorting pin 34 to ground manually but it didn't make a difference. In this case I used a CF adapter but the error is the same on a regular hard drive. The pin is just easier to access here on the adapter.
