Its alpha demo though.
Don't forget you can still download the excellent Unity demo of System Shock @ Humble Bundle (scroll down to the middle of the page). Most other sites have removed it since the dev changed over to the Unreal engine.

they're both bad
Completely disagree. The Unity demo nails it and I wish they had just stuck with the original plan. Looking forward to the release next year and of course this...

They're both way better than the original game's utterly broken controls and HUD.
So, some exciting news. Just released on GOG, the alpha demo of the new System Shock using the Unreal Engine 4 game engine is finally out DRM free without client or time restrictions. I'm looking forward to this one. Cheers.

That link is to the demo that has been out since 2016.
Check again my friend. The download file is completely different. I just downloaded it. Released today.
When the pre-alpha came out on Steam I used steamless to unprotect the exe. Works well.
There was a System Shock Demo released on GOG in 2016 but I don't think the Pre-Alpha ever was.
Is the version of the System Shock Demo on GOG the 2016 ver or the same as the Steam Pre-Alpha or is it an Alpha?
The Unity engine version was removed from most websites minus Humble Bundle like I stated in an earlier post above. I am a Kickstarter "Cyborg Enforcer" backer and I am very much looking forward to the collector box set.
I never played the Steam pre-alpha so I have no idea, but this is completely new as of today on GOG. There was a lot of discord on the Kickstarter site about them not releasing a GOG version of the new UE4 demo back when it was released on Steam. So at least they made good on that.
Edit: So just fired it up in Windows 7 64. Absolutely gorgeous, but I receive an error. If I click "OK" on the error dialog box the game then loads up without issue.

So I just got done watching their live Twitch interview today. It is a new version of the alpha demo apparently and not the same as the one previously released on Steam.
Googles say DXGIGetDebugInterface1 is Windows 8.1+. Wonder if there is a way to let GOG know.

Thanks, don't know why this has to be so confusing, guess version numbers are too hard. I'll figure how to name this one to seperate it from the other two.
I just add dates at the end of folder names to keep track.

Went from v1.2 to v1.21 overnight on GOG. Have no idea what they changed. Just to add to the version fun. 🤣
So, according to today's Kickstarter May Update the new alpha demo is getting yanked on June 15th so make sure to grab it before it's gone.
So found some funky pathing anomalies in the new v1.21 demo. Turns out you can have a dance party of sorts. Snuck in with a camera and captured the night club @ Citadel Station. 😉
Final UE4 demo is out today before the game's release!
New teaser video. Looks and sounds amazing.
