I have a MSI MS-5169 V4.0, but it does not have the Optional System Hardware Monitor chip and I am wondering how hard it would be to install one, has anyone done this please?

If you have this board with the chip installed please will you tell me what the chip is? It's should be at the back of the board behind the JMODEM connector.

I suppose it's not easy to add the optional components. You can estimate looking at attached pdf-s (unfortunately the ms5169 sheets are very poor quality). As you'll see the motherboard has co-layot for LM78 and W83781. The datasheets are available in the Internet.

Thank you, I have some W83781s so maybe I will try one and see how far I get, but I may try and get a board that has it and sell my existing board.
