Most of you probably know the TweakBios software from 1999, that could modify "hidden" BIOS settings.

As the freeware version 1.53b is still around:
https://web.archive.org/web/20141225075538/ht … .com/tweakbios/

there seems to be no (legal?) way to get the registered version any more, that would support loading/saving the tweaked settings.
Is it considered abandonware nowadays?
How to approach such software gems being probably "lost" nowadays?

There is person named Miro Wikgren on github (last activity in august 2020) and linkedin too. Why not to ask him?

Did anyone ask him? If not I can reach out. This tool worked quite well on an socket 7 based IBM Aptiva, the factory memory timings were not optimal at all.

ModBin could be an alternative for Award BIOS systems. This can enable options in the BIOS where as TweakBIOS writes to chipset registers.

Interesting, how would you know if one of these OEM builds use an Award BIOS?

There are no signs or labels anywhere? If you have a dump of the BIOS you can use a hexeditor to look for strings. Different BIOSes use different tools I'm afraid. I only have a bit of experience with Award BIOSes where some features are disabled by the OEM.

Thanks guys, adjusting some additional settings and loading them on boot appears to allow me to run this Aptiva board at 75Mhz FSB reliably.

Will check this out tonight. My P200 MMX system is on a Supermicro P5-XTRA board that has limited multiplier and FSB options. Would be cool to see if it supported some of the more versatile settings...

Modern PC: i7-9700KF, 16GB memory, RTX 3060. Proper PC: Pentium 200 MMX, 128MB EDO memory, GeForce2 MX(200).
