Bought a nice AT desktop pc today. It got one of those 386/486 VLB motherboards to my surprise. A dx2 66 OD. It also came with a soundcard i never heard about, a Mediavision Jazz 16, with a OPL ymf262 chip.

Got a AWE64 for my slot A build I'm working on. Sadly no box.

Nice, very nice. One of these days, I'll have to look for one of these to replace my CT4520 Value version.

Its actually the sellers photo. But yeah it looks like a rather nice table.

AWE 64 is only OK in my book. Definately overhyped and over piced. I sold mine and bought an EWS 64 XL for the money i got for it, it is a lot better card in every way IMHO.
But if one wants one i dont see why not tho.

Bought a Goldstar Prime 2 C VLB I/O controller card to replace the Prime 2 ISA controller in my 486 build. Slowly on my path to making it a bit faster, with slowly being the operative word due to Canada Post. 😁

Could you possibly image the floppies and the CD and upload them to archive.org or someplace else? My own AWE64 gold should be arriving sometime next week but I got it loose, without any extras.

The CD is, but I don't think the floppies are.

I think the floppies are for the DOS drivers, CTCM, and the sound files for the DOS applications. PhilsComputerLab has those files available.

found a 486 mobo on ebay, a A-Trend ATC-1425B. hasn't arrived yet, hopefully it works though.

Still, it would be nice to have untouched images of the floppies, at least for archival purposes. I don't think there are any for the AWE64 disks.

The AWE64 Gold CD ISO is in vogonsdrivers though.

Is it pale when you look at it from a slightly above angle? The 1.0.0 that I have is best viewed from above.
Also, did it come with the front plastic bit for the big LED buttons? I'm still trying to figure out just how easy to break those are, since that is all I'm missing on my own.

It is indeed fine when I look at it from slightly above or higher, rather pale when looking straight on and practically unreadable from below . I was comparing to my SC-88, which looks fine straight on, even better from above but still very readable from below .

Either this is normal for the SC-55 , or something in the LCD driving circuit in both yours and mine has degraded over time . With a sampling of only 2 units, it is hard to say which it is . Maybe other SC-55 mark 1 owners will chime in about this as well .

Pretty sure those sc-55 issues have to do with either capacitors or the voltage not being quite correct.
It should be pretty easy to mod the display to adjust the contrast... but figure out the problem first.

Phil has sbbasic.exe and ctcmbbs.exe. Both of those are from Creative's website and are indeed used as DOS 6.22 drivers.

What I'm saying is, there are no actual images of the three floppies that originally came with the card. They probably do the same thing as the web drivers, but it would still be nice to have them imaged. I'm asking because it's rare to find an AWE64 Gold with the original disks nowadays. Despite the availability of the web-based downloadable drivers, it would still be useful to have an image of the original disks for archival purposes.

I managed to snag myself a GTX 280 for the grand total of $25, and it even came with drivers For a completely different in every way card!

I will test it out and ,at some point in the future, put it in to a system. I was originally going to put it in the HP workstation that I have so it could be the "ultimate" Vista machine, but as it turnbs out, HP used proprietary power supplies for it that are both larger physically than standard, but also have an apple-like power connector that appears to be ATX, but has pins mixed around. Still, I'm happy to have something new.

My AWE64 Gold just arrived! And I didn't even expect it until Monday.

I was very lucky to find one for just 45 EUR on the local classifieds. To be fair, it was sold in "unknown condition" since the seller no longer had an "old computer" to test it and the last time he used it was "in high school" by his own admission. Visually, the card looked great, aside from being a bit dusty, so I took the plunge. Installing the drivers under DOS 6.22 and running DIAGNOSE.EXE confirmed that this CT4390 is indeed fully functional. Also, soundfonts load just fine under Win98 and every game that I've tested so far has worked perfectly. Very happy with this!
