Ok, so here's a tricky one and we'll see if someone can clarify things a bit for me.
I got a generic Trident 9440 card that I've been using to do some quick testing of several socket 7 processors to see if they work or not, but something got my attention: this Trident card has 5 memory sockets (for SOJ) memory. 5! Why the odd number? It doesn't have soldered memory from the factory either, all of them are sockets, and even more weird, all of them are populated. I suspect that previous owner didn't actually know what was going on and just put some memory in there and it's not working, as the card is showing only 1MB of video ram, and the chips in there are kind of a mess, 3 of them are the same, while the other 2 are different (one seems to have some sort of parity or ecc, as it's a 18-bit one). I was thinking of taking them all out and start to fill them gradually and see which ones work and which ones don't, or what the hell is going on... but i'm still puzzled by having 5 sockets.
Any1 has a clue? Here's the card:
