Could someone please provide simple and very specific instructions on how to remove this CPU fan?
I'm sure I am doing it wrong. Cannot get the silver clamps to lift off.

After typing number on the lever you can find an image how it looks disassembled, so that may help

When pressed correctly on lever with AVC (take a close look at how it bends when pressed), the end hook should come off the tab on your CPU socket. take both off and you should be set!
It's a stupid mechanism. You need to press down on the large tabs to unhook them and then simultaneously pull the far out side of the large tab up/to the side so you bend the hook away from the retention frame so it does not hook in again when you stop pressing down on the tab.

Totally agree with the stupid! Thanks to all, much appreciated, it all helped.
I finally got it off. I don't know who invents this stuff.
It's one of those things that appears near impossible to do until you are told/understand how and you've done it once.

I think its an OEM thing.
Made to mount easily, and who cares about removing or reuse.
Drop it in place, press until you hear the clicks and its mounted correctly.

Look at this server heatsink. I couldn't believe when I first saw it:
It tells you to discard it after removing. Probably because of used up thermal compound. That's how you care ecology 😀 BTW it works perfectly with slotkets because it's low profile.
