The creator of the alternate version, intended to solve his problem and nothing else, was shared with the community in the hopes that it might solve similar problems for others. It wasn't intended as competition, nor a replacement; he has already stated very clearly that he has no interest in maintaining it on an ongoing basis, nor dealing with the never-ending "suggestions". Unless you're committing to ongoing development, support and maintenance, there is no justification for giving it an entire thread. Come on, accept the challenge; "don't be lazy"!
It's always easy to feel entitled to things when you're making demands on the time of others; it's quite a different matter to actually sit down to create and support something long-term yourself. Personally, I'm thrilled that he decided to share it, and although I don't have time at the moment, I will definitely make a point of looking over his code. I'm sure there's something to be learned in there, though much like the author, I am not offering to maintain or support the application.
Sometimes, it pays to think before you start typing, especially when you're offering nothing but criticism, then insisting upon it.
