My jaw just dropped a bit.

Here is last months build before I found out that I needed to build some older PC's. I had a lot of spare parts that my wife thought I should get rid of so I built this. Then I made the mistake of asking for old parts at work and then things just got out of hand. The video card is the only red Nvidia card I have ever seen an EVGA GeForce GTX 275 896MB, I knew I needed to save it all this time.

I like how your wife asking you to get rid of parts ended up with you acquiring even more parts :p

The case came without any bay covers, switch, or turbo display so I got all of those separately and peaced the case together turned out nice imo. Been playing Unreal Tournament on it to test things out, Half life, Quake 3, Theif, and some coop Diablo 2 (glide of course) with my son. Just got another ss7 mobo in the mail today, and one more on the way to get 2 more up and running, mostly want to test comparisons between via, ali, and sis chipsets.

that 3dfx logo is nice, where did you buy it, i think i saw those on ebay, beind sold in europe

Asus P3B-F 1.04 (2 ISA slots model)

768MB (3x256 Registered ECC ram)

Sound cards:
Gravis Ultrasound rev. 3.74 (ISA non-PnP)
Sound Blaster AWE32 CT3900 with 32MB Ram (ISA non-PnP)
Aureal Vortex 2 8830A2 (PCI)

Video Card:
3dfx Voodoo 3 3000 AGP 16MB

Network card:
3com 3C905CX-TXM PCI

It's a retrofitted Dell Dimension XPS T500
I replaced the original motherboard (Dell oem version of Intel SE440BX-2).
To make it work I had to make a custom front panel adapter. Power supply also had to be replaced.

Three sound cards (cause why not? 😀)
GUS is mostly used for Sfx in dos games
Aureal Vortex 2 is for Windows games that support A3D
AWE32 is used in dos games mostly for midi music and is also installed in windows as a secondary sound device - this allows for loading custom sound fonts for GM emulation in DOS games.

Yes, I was pleasantly surprised to find out that Asus p3b-f supports registered ecc ram as the manual only mentions unbuffered ecc. I got them on ebay for less than $8 for the whole set so it would not hurt much if they didn't work. My Intel SE440BX-2 (and it's Dell oem version as well) does not recognize them properly all three sport the same chipset so go figure, I guess the Bios is the key.

Nice! I see you have a Roland SC-55 mkII and SC-88 Pro. Is there something the SC-88 cant do that the SC-55 can? I ordered a SC-88VL today and thought it was backwards compatible with the SC-55.

The only thing the SC-88 can't do that the SC-55 can is play SC-55 music right. The SC-88 has a SC-55 mode where it emulates the SC-55's MIDI map but it's not the same same as a real SC-55.

Ok. I should have researched a bit more before i jumped on the SC-88VL, but it will do for now.

Well, I originally bought the 55mkII on eBay, as my first installment of this kind, and probably paid overprice, but within shortly after, the 88 Pro showed up locally for a steal, and then I couldn't help myself to buy that as well. I actually do prefer the sound of the 88, except for some rare occasions, where the MIDI did sound strange to me (not as bad, as the 55 in MT32-mode, but something in between).

Congrats on your 88VL - you'll be more than satisfied I think 😀

Decided to put the PS/2 together despite its floppy drive not working 😵
(working on a fix right now, could maybe use some pinouts of the riser for the PS/2 70? not the same as the PS/2 80 or the PS/2 P70)
