Once Windows 10 released, I didn't really trust it with anything less than 4-cores for actual real work.

Windows Defender and Update make Windows 10 chug on dual-core systems.

I also remember how Windows XP used to run fine with 256MB of RAM and 512MB of RAM until SP2 came out - then it became awfully slow. It turns out, you really need at least 1 GB for SP1 to run smoothly.

I find Service Pack 3 quite responsive with 256 MiB of RAM. Of course, certain applications might require more than that.

Gigabyte GA-8I915P Duo Pro | P4 530J | GF 6600 | 2GiB | 120G HDD | 2k/Vista/10
MSI MS-5169 | K6-2/350 | TNT2 M64 | 384MiB | 120G HDD | DR-/MS-DOS/NT/2k/XP/Ubuntu
Dell Precision M6400 | C2D T9600 | FX 2700M | 16GiB | 128G SSD | 2k/Vista/11/Arch/OBSD

For XP, my best method was to start with a volume license key that does not require activation. I even used it on some laptops with a valid COA, simply to avoid the hassle of official restore media and all the bloat. However, I'm not sure I remember how to convert to a VLK if you didn't use it to install in the first place.

is this actually down to the licence key and not the windows disc, i've never heard of licences keys that dont need activation but i do have a version of vista and xp pro that dont need activation, though those are both iso's i found online so i dont know if they are from a genuine disc or a fixed version, are yours genuine discs be intersting to know, possible they could also be some sort of business version, i used to work for a company building systems also did alot of touch screen tablet pc's that ran xp, we installed the Os's over network with ghost and i dont remember ever entering a licence key or activating them, that was in 2015 so by that point xp was already end of life.

i personally use a genuine version of xp sp3 as its the last one released, so wpa-kill is the easiest option for me.
