I should have been more crystal clear 😁 I use CrystalDiskInfo to check the SMART features, is by same company group. https://crystalmark.info/en/software/crystaldiskinfo/
CrystalDiskMark is for benchmarking and does not show the important smart features like reallocated sector count, etc.
There is a portable version too which I use on thumbdrives to check others than my 4 main boxes. Example of one of my computers:

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

As said earlier... SpeedFan also shows the S.M.A.R.T. values and additionally also shows temperatures and fan's rpm of all sensors. The latest version 4.52 isn't compatible with Win9x anymore - but version 4.51, which is available on my tools page (https://soggi.org/misc/tools.htm), is!

Finally, take the tool which satisfies you most.

SpeedFan runs on all my builds for ~20 years. I let it run on startup in the tray where it shows the most important temperature (CPU). To do so, I put the short cut from the desktop to the auto start/run folder in the start menu and execute it minimized. Let me know if you need some help!

Not having much luck getting a version of CrystalDiskInfo that works for me. But I’ve managed to get SpeedFan on, so can hopefully get a result soon.

Also, tried making a CD image of Quake in .bin format, but STILL get the issue of no music playing. 😕

Been having a lot of trouble uploading photos from my phone. They either tend to be over 5MB or it complains it can't compressed them manually to 2MB, even if I do compress them lower. So I'll have to share them via another source from now on. 😒

These are the tests from SpeedFan. I'm not sure if these results are good...? The performance and fitness bar are at maximum. I'm presuming that's good...?

Why don't you make screenshots and save them as .png? They would be 100 KiB or something like that for desktop stuff.

The values look good so far, but backup the important data as said above.

Can not decipher the power on hours of the Fuji but the Maxtor has been run total of 42,913 hours. That be equal to 8hrs/day for 14.7 years... it is getting old so keep an eye on it.
Yes CrystalDiskInfo is for XP and up....

I'll need to look into how to convert them. I'm not sure if there's an option with the iPhone. When I did convert it in Photoshop, it made the size even bigger.

I must have missed that suggestion. Is that to compare results if and when they change?

Also, if the health of them is fine, I'm not sure why one has been playing up lately. However, since disconnecting and re-connecting the D drive up, it has been fine so far. So maybe a connection needed re-doing and configuring?

Okay, thanks for the heads-up. Which is ironic as the Fujitsu HDD was in the machine originally and was the C drive. So it's much older. The Maxtor was bought second-hand recently. I'm guessing it's due to the make/manufacturer? Or maybe just the luck of the draw? How do you decipher the power on hours? I see the Maxtor is listed as 242 and the Fuji 84.

Oh, awesome. Definitely something I’ll have to look into at some point. Thanks for sharing. 😄

You're welcome! If you do ever go the SSD route, one more thing to keep in mind is Windows 98 drive size limits. The regular Windows 98 has a hard drive limit of ~128GB.

So you either need to use a drive with a max size of 128GB, or use the Rloew high capacity disk patch to remove that limitation. This also assumes your BIOS can natively support drives larger than ~128GB.

I've stocked up on 128GB Lexar and Kingston SSD's while they're still available for this reason. They're quite cheap, too.

Cool. Thanks for the heads-up. I’m not sure if my BIOS can or not. I’ve not had much success in updating it either. So I may just have to stick to 128GB or lower. I can’t imagine I’d need that much anyway. Not for the C drive. 😀

Okay, found a workaround to convert them to a smaller size with JPEG and PNG. 😀

I don’t see any option to backup the results from what I’m seeing in SpeedFan 4.51.

You have to take the screenshots on your Win9x machine and save it there as .png, you can do this with freeware tools like IrfanView or XnView. Converting a photograph (mostly .jpg) into a .png will screw it up. PNG is lossless for graphics, JPG is lossy (mostly) for photographs. The latest version of IrfanView (4.44) for Windows 95/98/98SE/ME (English/German) is also available from my tools page (https://soggi.org/misc/tools.htm).

Cool. The only snag is with taking the pic on the 98 machine is I don’t have the internet, so I can’t upload it to here. And I imagine it would be problematic setting up my phone to transfer the image across to it. 😅

Oh sure. I thought you just meant to take the pic on the 98 machine and upload it from there. 😅 I’ve just found it quicker to upload the pics and post replies from my phone whilst at the 98 PC.

I meant take the screenshot with a tool like Irfanview, XnView or some other graphics software, save it as .png, transfer it to another computer (via LAN, USB stick or some other portable media) and upload it from there. 😀

I often do it the other way around...posting from a PC and then add photographs from my mobile phone later.
