XCOM terror from the deep, the game freeze when I choose General Midi or SoundCanvas in Setup. It works when I choose AWE32. It's the same with an without SoftMPU.
[Edit]: seems that some files are missing in SOUND directory : http://www.ufopaedia.org/index.php?title=File:TFTDmidi.zip

Screamer : the game works only if it is located in C:\SCREAMER 😠

But mine is totally messed with strange characters under DOS (Need ANSI.SYS ?)

No, the installer needs the 8x14 font. Some videocards (Vesa 3.0 compatible IIRC) use the memory area of this font for different tasks.
There was the TSR somewhere on Vogons to fix this problem.

Asus P4P800 SE/Pentium4 3.2E/2 Gb DDR400B,
Radeon HD3850 Agp (Sapphire), Catalyst 14.4 (XpProSp3).
Voodoo2 12 MB SLI, Win2k drivers 1.02.00 (XpProSp3).

@Gamecollector: Thanks. My Matrox Mystique is the cause.
I've downloaded the tool.

To make Dark Forces working, I just put the file CD.ID at root of the harddisk. The file DRIVE.CD must contain the letter of the drive where CD.ID is.

Daughter of Serpents' directory need to be in root directory. And its name must be DAUGHTER
If not, the game don't work.

You can put DAUGHTER in an other directory and then use a small DAUGHTER.BAT batch file :

For example, if DAUGHTER is in the c:\DOS directory and E: is a free drive letter :

CD\
SUBST E: C:\DOS
E:
CD DAUGHTER
RUN
C:
CD\
SUBST E: /D
