It seems to me that with WinFLP being somewhat obscure, sooner or later you're going to run into an equally-obscure compatibility problem that no one can clearly explain and/or quickly fix. (It is frequently mentioned that it is missing null.sys, for instance; who can say what else might have been quietly removed that some game or driver might eventually go looking for?)

That's the reason I stopped using TinyXP/MicroXP on old systems. Empire Earth, for example would not run because of a missing .dll file. I even tried going online to download the missing .dll to put in the correct system folder. After I did that, the game would still not run. I don't know why...

Certain web browsers, including Opera Browser, would not work either due to a missing .dll.

did you ever try registering the DLL

I meant installing Windows 95/98 versions of directx and wmp on winflip instead of the xp-era versions.

The win9x versions had lower system requirements. Using them on winflp could improve system performance.

I'm pretty sure the Win9x versions of DirectX are fundamentally incompatible with NT/XP. (Win9x allowed considerably more direct access to system hardware than NT/XP ever did, which is why the system requirements would be lower – if that is indeed the case.)

If you know the name of the DLL, it might be possible to provide an answer. It could just be a matter of the Visual C++ runtime libraries, which were never included in Windows in the first place.

And as suggested above, sometimes just downloading a DLL will not solve the problem; if there's no installer available, you may need to register them (with regsvr32).

How do you register a .dll? This could solve my TinyXP problems.
