Have you tried to mount the cdrom stuff with -t cdrom parameter?

I did all of the above and got further in loadstar(I am running it from the CD's. By slowing dosbox to 2000 cycles. It checks the system for configuration, and then tells me that my video card is subpar. A continue on yes/no is given, and if you say yes, you get a black screen.

Did you try a recent CVS build?

I went to your homepage the day of my post, and downloaded the first two links(dlls and patched .exe), I copied my dosbox folder, and placed everything inside. I get the CD-rom error at everything higher than ~2000 cycles

Load up is
game turns on-computer use light on my case blinks-(timer 2 error goes here and is now fixed)
CD-rom is accessed-CD-rom light blinks
Now loading screen appears on my monitor-CD-rom and main use light blinks as bar fills
After the rocket science now loading screen (where the previous poster was stuck, and I fixed by slowing dosbox), is a new screen that says:

Because this game plays interactive movies directly off the CD-ROM, it requires your processor, CD-ROM drive, and video card to work together in a very demanding way. Rocket science has analysed your computer and determined that the game may not play smoothly.

Here's how your system performed on our tests
Processor: VERY GOOD
CD-ROM drive: EXCELENT
Video card: BELOW OUR MNIMUM REQUIREMENT
Do you want to play anyway? (Y/N)

Pressing the n key gives the copywrite info and puts you back at the cd-rom prompt

Pressing the y key goes to a black screen (corrrection as of one minute ago: first time run of the game from turning my computer on gives a very choppy rocket science games logo movie then black, and if I exit dosbox, and load up again I get a black screnn only)

I will try messing with dosbox.conf some, some setting in it may help. That also means that my slow down dosbox fix may not be the solution, as I will need cpu cycles to run the game, but need to keep the CD-Rom slow.

The relevant game specs are:
Minimum 486-based IBM compatible with 4MB of RAM, running DOS 5.0 or later; MPC level 2 recommended
Double speed CD-ROM drive
VGA set to 256 colors; SVGA recommended

I guess they didn't expect a 6MHz 486 😁

I had hoped the timer fix for Miglia would help but doesn't then...

What if you increase the cycles after passing the point where the error message would appear?

first thing I thought of was to do just that, and at anything over 2040 after 30sec (faster as the number gets bigger), you get the CDROM thread error again.

I suspect that it may need dosbox to emulate a 2x CDROM to play. How that would be done, I don't know.

My other SVGA games works so, it is just wrong about the video processor.

You can try this but I doubt it...

http://home.arcor.de/h-a-l-9000/dosbox_files/ … osbox_async.zip

(it handles file I/O in an extra thread. While that thread blocks emulation continues which means no/less sound stuttering when loading or while the cdrom drive spins up. Cursor will continue blinking while accessing floppy drive.)

Thanks for the executable. I can get loadstar to work, but the game studers when I do. I played around with the settings a little, but it becomes a not work, or works poorly problem.

Its still choppy. I'm still unable to change the cycles from 2000. I need to run the game faster without effecting the CDRom. I'm at about 1 frame per second during the intital video, and the game when it is playing. It works, it is just not playable at this speed. Is there a way to set one speed for CDRom emulation, and another for the rest of the hardware?
