That, plus:
- there are more AdLib Gold cards out there.
- the actual number of use cases for an AdLib Gold are smaller than a V5-6k (a handful of old games vs anything that will GLide)

I think they're equally stupid, if we solely consider their actual 'usefulness'.
The V5 6000... is just a buggier and more power hungry V5, that will probably run a few games at higher framerates (and those games will run a lot better on a cheap GeForce 4 Ti), and will outright refuse to run many older Glide games (just like the V5 5500).
So, all in all, from a functionality standpoint, you are much better off with a GeForce 4 Ti 4x00 and a Voodoo 2.
Of course, as you also mentioned, people buy these cards for different reasons, similarly to why some people spend millions of dollars for paintings. And I can guarantee that whoever will buy this card, will test it for a day (maybe two), and then store it on a shelf for many years to come. 😁

True, but that would apply to an AdLib Gold too 😉

Still, I have a Gf4Ti with Voodoo2 and for me that's fine - although if I could get a V5-6k for something in the low hundreds of EUR I'd probably do it. Just not for a factor thousand more.

Exactly. As I said, both are equally stupid 😁

Damn. People are crazy. I mean...I have expensive hobbies other than retro hardware, so I guess I shouldn't talk.
But classic cars and guitars do tend to seem more tangible.
I guess though, the card will only appreciate so maybe it's a good investment?

If you could get it for 12,600 you could probably turn around and sell it for double in 6 months. Unless WWIII starts, in which case, who cares.

I suppose Linus or some other big techtuber has cache to spare to buy it for content.

I wish Linus or LGR, or someone like that WOULD buy it. At least then pretty everyone will at least be able to share the experience of owning it.
As it is it'll probably end up in a private collection gathering dust on a shelf.

With no box and documentation and that crazy prices, I am starting to think people might start faking/making 100% replica of it as it can be harvested from two 5500 cards if I am not mistaken?

Faking is nearly useless, because it's easy to spot with such peculiar hardware, not like some sealed Nuntinder game for gullible boomers. And making working replica would require blueprints for original engineering samples or doing it from scratch, which will look different anyway.

I must be some kind of standard: the anonymous gangbanger of the 21st century.

This is insanity.

Over 13k and it has 6 days left.

For that money you could commission someone to make the bloody thing… or several for that matter.

its not as if the VSA chips are rare .. they can be sourced by the boat load if needed and a reversed engineered PCB and other components are not hard to get either. The PCB might be the hardest part but im sure there are PCB designs for it out there that don't cost 13k USD.

I believe Anthony in Russia has a voodoo 6000 design. Not sure if it is released or not though. He posts cool stuff about these on his facebook page.

Depends on the final price. Lots of items go for sale over 1K€ mark and are not so rare. So 13X might not (yet) be insane as there are even several high bidders. I'm not one of them, of course 🤣

Visit my AmiBay items for sale (updated: 2025-03-14). I also take requests 😉

Yeah I'm glad I picked up Anthony's V5 6000 clone, makes the price seem cheap!

Will these just keep appreciating in value or get in the trash as soon as the generation living in that era start dying?
