They did change the microcode of some cpus in A10 so I'll probably try A09 and see if that works or not.

OK and A09 sounds like a good one to try. I just tried and the 5.6 driver does run on 2000, but not for very long and it took me a few CPU swaps to catch it running.

I'll see about getting around to messing with it more Saturday or Sunday. I have possibly one last idea to fix it if the bios can't be downgraded or if it doesn't work after that but if not I'll probably give up on it for a time until I can figure out a bit more about these things.

Necro'ing my own thread after almost a year as I FINALLY figured it out to hopefully help someone out one day without making a new thread. It was nothing to do with the latest BIOS (at least afaik) and all to do with a utility Dell no longer hosts. To set the proper CPU speed on a Precision 620 you need Dell's SuperFREQ utility either 1 for 733/800mhz ones or 2 for higher. Using version two on here got it working as intended after I tried a couple older BIOS versions. A12 is fine once you use this utility. It's not easy to find so I uploaded them to archive.org. I was gonna upload them here but I couldn't, so if anyone else wants to feel free to.

Post them on the Vogons Driver Library thread and an account holder will likely upload them - VOGONS Driver Library

BTW, both versions were already on the Dell ftp mirror archive - https://web.archive.org/web/20120622174609/ht … ll.com/utility/
