Fixed the windows lag and no sound issues by purposely putting the wrong settings in for the DOS WSS settings. I'll bet there was a driver conflict there that was causing problems.
I think everything should be stable now!

I know this is old but I am having all the same issues are you on a Gateway Solo 9100 with the OPL-SAx Yamaha chipset and hardware wave table. Issues both in Windows 98 DOS window games and true DOS mode. Even have the same WSS and SB failure when testing in Setupsa and I'm about to pull my hair out. Can you please give me rundown of everything you did to correct this?

I think SETUPSA is one of the worst drivers I've ever used. I never stopped having trouble with it, including on a second laptop I got with the SAx. My eventual solution was just to forget about it - putting a SET BLASTER variable in AUTOEXEC was all that was needed to get sound working in all of my games.
