🤣 yeah inflation has not hit them yet 😁

Really? I was struggling to find a boxed copy for under £100

I sold a few sealed copes of Win98 OEM earlier this year
They typically sold for around £15-20 shipped

^^ that is your problem = A boxed copy of Win95 Plus ? Why when you can get just the CD in jewel case or oem sleeve for about $20-30 with shipping... those that want $100 will never sell for that.
On Ebay click on "sold items" and see for yourself, many sold for about $20 in the last few months but if you really want a "boxed" version you will pay more that you will ever get back if you re-sell it....
I have a few originals in Jewel Case or CD sleeves. The only thing neat about Plus was MS Bob and his dog 🤣 everything else was just junk IMHO

Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun

Plus 95 is still kind of useful as it included "Visual Enhancements" namely
High colour icons, Show windows contents while dragging, and soft edges when highlighting icons, etc. Plus in included Space Cadet Pinball of course!
Plus I suppose it added support for Themes if that's what your into.

Back in the day things like Plus 95's DriveSpace, task scheduler or Plus 98's zip folders were useful, These days I just install 95 for the above

As I do have a small collection of old big box games, I did fancy owning a boxed copy of Win98, but not at £100+ 🤣 my pockets aren't THAT deep. Suppose the only thing for it, is to buy an unboxed copy of Plus! 98. On the upside it'll take up less room.

Back on the topic of Dells, have any of you tried running older DOS games on their P4's, I gave Wing Commander a spin last night. Woah, that thing FLEW! I don't think they ever expected some fool to try running it on a 1.6Ghz CPU 😜

There's an old android saying which I believe is peculiarly appropriate here. In binary language it goes something like this: 001100111011000111100, which roughly translated means: "Don't stand around jabbering when you're in mortal danger!"

Before I got into this hobby in a big way I was using a P4 with a SBLive as my Win98/dos machine. Truth is it played most my games just fine and for a bit of casual gaming it would have been enough. It was me that went crazy and decided I wanted multiple setups with different hardware, even now though any PC that has Win98 installed I still configure to be able to game in dos...just in case

I can relate. And when the installation finished you notice that it wasn't SE after all. Darn.

i386 16 ⇒ i486 DX4 100 ⇒ Pentium MMX 200 ⇒ Athlon Orion 700 | TB 1000 ⇒ AthlonXP 1700+ ⇒ Opteron 165 ⇒ Dual Opteron 856

Probably the best part of that 98 CD is that it actually is SE. I now have an official OEM CD but it’s FE so I never use it.

I have an original 98SE cd, but I had trouble making a backup of it. I’m loathed to try polishing the scratches as it does work.

Btw do any of you play DOS games on your systems? I asked because I tried playing Wing Commander and it was way too fast. I think I read there is software for slowing down the cpu?

Reviving an old thread, but I just got a Dimension 4300 myself that I plan to use as a 98 machine. I already have a Dimension V350 as a slower 98 PC, and the machine was extremely cheap with a 1.5 Ghz P4. Plus I used to have a black clamshell Dell similar to this - I was running XP on it of course but that's a lot less fun these days (and I have a much newer machine running XP). Need to check the caps, but for $8 it's hard to go that wrong.
