Aww Magic Carpet...

Now this brings back some memories.

Not sure which version I had, but I can't remember any crashes.

What I remember however is that I found it confusing / too much going on at the higher levels.

The less powerful your system, the less likely the game would crash.

Which is strange because even if you give DOSBox pretty low settings, the original Magic Carpet still crashes routinely. Magic Carpet Plus crashes the least so that's probably the version you had if you can't remember it ever crashing. Magic Carpet 2 crashes often, though not as much as the original.

Several of the crashes have been debugged and are plain game bugs that may occur under certain circumstances and are hard to control by dosbox.

Ancient DOS Games Episode 44 - Supaplex is online!

This... was not a fun episode to make, for the simple fact that I'm absolutely terrible at Boulder Dash and all games following in its footsteps. It is one of the very few games I simply cannot get any skill with, regardless of how many hours I spend in front of it, and trust me, it's not just because of the puzzle nature; There's several puzzle games I'm extremely good at.

Still, I did what I could and I think the episode turned out OK despite my inability to play beyond the 10% mark. I did make a couple mistakes which I didn't notice until it came time to upload so I added the corrections on the video page as I normally do when stuff like that happens.

Well, you have to admit, that 5 1/4" floppy to USB stuff is pretty recent, especially compared to when that filler episode came out. ;P

But yeah, I'm just one guy so every so often I'm gonna miss stuff or get things wrong. That's part of the reason why I have the corrections and additional information below every single video on my website. ;)

Gemini000: the hint for the next game is so easy, that I would be disappointed if the leisure is not it 😉 Anyway I think these links to boulderdash games, would be helpful to many.

Boulderdash - Martijn's Boulder Dash Fan Site - Freeware and Shareware Boulderdash Clones for PC

Now we are going to have a field day, cause I first heard of Marek through his site

Great episode by the way, but I think you should mention that if you want to play supaplex in Windows, and "Fuck DOSBox!" , then you can play Supaplex through megaplex. Which is on the site you mentioned (the elmer production site)

I didn't feel it was necessary to mention Megaplex because anyone going to the Supaplex site will instantly become aware of it. ;)

Also, don't be so sure about next week's game. Off the top of my head, there's THREE different games it could be. I try to come up with hints that can apply to more than a single game so that even people who send in guesses late still have a chance. :P

Gemini000: well the games I am thinking off, there the character had a guest appearance in some card game(s) ? from the same company, but anyway I hope you do not go totally political correct on the game, and we end up with the usual BS censorship. After all, it is not Doom, and a sad thing is this. Denmark was actually the first to have a shooting, back in April (4. to be exact) 94 in Aarhus, there a maniac killed two female students, and wounded 2 others. After that he killed himself out on the toilet, and when I say maniac, then I mean maniac. He was 35, and it was on Aarhus University.

The only thing I have to censor no matter what is nudity because the Blip.tv service does not allow it. (IE: If I didn't censor it, there would be no Ancient DOS Games, period.)

Everything else is fair game, but should there be lots of direct sexual references (innuendo is fine) or graphic violence in any game I review, I put a warning up first since a large portion of the visitors to my website are children. The warning is mostly for the sake of parents monitoring their children's web activities who then have the power to stop them.

Ancient DOS Games Episode 45 - Stellar 7 is online!

Don't feel bad if you guessed this week's game wrong... no one got it right. I thought at least someone would but all the guesses that came in were for Leisure Suit Larry (since it's missing a sequel) and Corridor 7 (since it too has a 7 in the title without having had six games prior).

Ah well. I try to come up with hints that can swing towards multiple games like that so that just because you got the first guess in doesn't mean you'll get in the credits. ;)

Gemini000: Great episode, but damn your hint was a very sneaky one, and here I thought it was the Larry games. But anyway I had no idea, there was a Starwing/Starfox like game before (actually that is not entirely true, since I later on learned that there were polygon based space shooters that reminded of the SNES game). But wow, that game looks incredible , in comparison to Starwing , which looks dreadful in comparison, even though I loved Starwing on the SNES, as you can guess I am from pal land. So the version I had was Starwing. Anyway I like your show a lot, so the only thing I can say is this. Be aware of one thing, never mention either nip or jap in relations to Japanese games, cause it is deemed VERY racist saying Jap, instead of Japanese. But other than that then great. I used to be a member of BlipTV some time ago, until a troll really screwed up Darksydephils chance of becoming a star there. And DSP had no chance of defending himself from the slander. But anyway, good episode. Also the "Sol" system is our own solar system, since in Latin Sol, is the name of our sun. In Danish "solen" means "the sun". So sol/Sol = the sun.

StarFox/StarWing is a very different game from Stellar 7 in terms of gameplay, but I do agree the graphical style is a little similar.

Oh don't worry, I know about those particular racial slurs towards the Japanese. I research stuff just for the heck of it sometimes and one particular day I discovered all kinds of nasty superhero related things when looking up stuff about WWII. It was both ludicrous and terrifying from my perspective. o_O

I'll admit though, I have no idea what that has to do with Stellar 7. ;P

The reason why I mentioned the whole thing about not using certain words, were because if you ever review a game. That is made by a Japanese company, then it would suck. If you got kicked off BlipTV because of "racism".

Starfox was made in the UK by Argonaut Software IIRC, but okay.

That makes me more confused on last weeks clue. Leisure Suit Larry does have more than 6 sequels despite skipping the 4th entry. Corridor 7 and Stellar 7 do not have 6 prequels. That's different from a sequel.

SKARDAVNELNATE: in the "original" series, there were only 6 (Larry 7 was the "last" of the "original" series). So, if have any other info upon any other sequels , then explain what you mean. Since to many fans of the old games, then the two newest offshoots of the series are not true sequels to the old series.

By definition, a prequel IS a sequel that covers an earlier part of the story than what came before it.

So I didn't say that Stellar 7 did not have 6 prequels because that would imply that if it did, each game before it covered an earlier part than the last game. (Stellar 2 is a prequel of Stellar 1, Stellar 3 is a prequel of Stellar 2, etc.)

Granted, regardless of if I said prequels or sequels, both would be correct because it didn't have six anythings before it. ;)

What's the verdict on the casino game? It was after 7 but is not one of the two newest.
