I got a somewhat rare motherboard today! 😀
I could have posted this in the modern hardware thread as it's borderline but in my head first generation Core 2 Duo chipset motherboards are retro. Intel 975X and 965P were in fact meant for Pentium 4, Pentium D and other (cancelled) Netburst atrocities. P35, X38 and derivatives were the chipsets really designed and optimized for the new Core architecture.
A box with a bubble wrapped-motherboard... The seller refused to use anything else than this bubble wrap bag to protect the motherboard...
The sellers pictures showed screenshots from the system the motherboard was in... It seems two out of six SATA ports somehow got torn off during the dismantling of the system... luckily I don't need more than 4.
Bubble wrap and SATA ports torn off... a great start... Did the board even work?
It seems so and I'm VERY glad I don't have to deal with the not at all agreeable Ebay seller any further.
2444 MHz and 1.5V+ core voltage with optimized defaults loaded... classic Abit.

This was listed as a Asus MX440 but actually turned out to be a MX460! Looks a really nice card for a MX model.
MX460's with DVI out, quite nice indeed. Even the TV out is populated.

Apricot and Mitsubishi are the same thing. Early ones started off branded as "Mitsubishi Apricot".
Got another IBM Model M for my keyboard collection, this time it's the one with the black cord, the XT connector and no leds. 😀 Love these things so much.
Finally got me one of the good AWE32 sound cards. CT3980. Been after one for a while but prices always go high. This is going straight into the 200MMX!

Over 100 disks.
People usually trash demo discs. Good to see those will get a nice home.
Are they all demos or are there complete games in there as well?
Today I got this and look at the excellent way of wrapping it. This is how it always should be done......
Anyway, don't know if this is rare or special. Probably not, but I like it and it's boxed :p
Will need to test it but don't know when.
My retro collection: too much...
Interesting to see something like that. And 8MB of RAM? That's amazing, man.

It's good that people are keeping demos, because demos sometimes contain things that were cut or changed in the final release. Case in point: Blood.

No, it's not. 😈 Good but not great. If I was packing it, I would have put it in cardboard box with some insulation layer in between the boxes (bubble wrap, probably) and then wrapped the external box. But that's me, I become a bit OCD and paranoid when packing and sending old hardware.
IMO anything electrical wrapped and sealed should include a bag of silica gel crystals..
Nothing worse than trapping moisture inside ...
corrosion can still take place otherwise..
Those airlock zip lock backs that can be vacuum sealed would also fit the bill.

Apricot was a completely independent (British) company in its early years. Only after the usual financial mess was the name sold to Mitsubishi. So "Mitsubishi Apricot" would in fact be one of the last Apricot devices.

Good luck with that. I have the same problem, am trying to dump mine too but nobody is biting.

First time I've seen it. There are a few on eBay though.
It offers up to 8mb but according to the box, this one is 2mb
@OldCat: I was sarcastic 😀 I hate it when people send stuff like this! I guess I was lucky that it wasn't crushed.
I ship the way you propose.
My retro collection: too much...
I have the same board on my AT. it took a little bit of fiddling with the drivers to get it up and running, but I do like it better than the intel aboveboard i had prior. So much easier swapping simms if something goes wrong rather than testing it chip by chip.

I have no clue what I'm doing! If you want to watch me fumble through all my retro projects, you can watch here: https://www.youtube.com/user/MrDavejustdave

I completely agree with you on this point. The original box is as important as the product inside IMO (if the original box is in good shape) and a box within a box is the only way I ship my vintage hardware.
