Um, that is ridiculous. Well done!

I actually bought this a few years ago, but immediately put it in storage and only found it again today while looking for my spare model M keyboard (which I also found) .
What I am talking about is a MAC IIvx with a CD-ROM that requires caddies (I know that I have one somewhere, but where).
I managed to find an ADB mouse , but I have no keyboard for it .
Anyway so far I was able to
- confirm there is no battery leakage even though the battery is dead (I got lucky should have removed the thing before storing the MAC)
- find no capacitor leakage (not saying there isn't any, just that I did not see any)
- boot it in MacOS 7.1
- get video out of it using a crappy adapter with no DIP switches the makes the MAC output 512x384 and an OSSC . Without the OSSC, I could not get a picture on my Philips 252B9 whose otherwise very legacy friendly VGA port even support SOG .
- get sound to work
- get the floppy drive to work
- listen to the bearings of the noisy but still working SCSI drive
Now, the big question is, what do I do with this thing ?
- To get any use out of it I need either an ADB keyboard or a Wombat ADB-USB Input Converter
- It has 8MB or more MB of RAM (I forget), I imagine that's more than enough for any games that the 68030 CPU in this thing can handle
- It has no NIC, so I would need to get a Nubus or PDS NIC, AFAIK (lack of network connectivity kills it for me) and Thursby's DAVE, at 120 $US ,is not enticing
- AFAICR, MacOS 7.5.x is required for either MacTCP or OpenTransport and thing is no speed demon as it is .
- That SCSI drive's sound is literally grinding my nerves, so a SCSI2SD is practically a mandatory upgrade
- I never was a MAC person
Bought some replacement RTC chips (well, 1 complete, the other as a repair board for an existing RTC) for my Pentium Pro 200 board and another board.

so I bought this Korg Audio Gallery AG-10 boxed with all the stuff for a reasonable price, quickly took it out of the box (which was pretty beat up but eh not complaining) to put it in my midi tower build to see how everything fits.
hardware40_08.jpgtoday I put away the box... and curiously in the shipping box there was another small box hiding between the packaging material...
a midi interface? oh nice :3
wonder what that is... "magic midia" huh? never heard of...
hardware40_09b.jpgwell I opened the box to check and wrapped in bubble wrap was this...
D:
well that's a nice and welcome addition to the purchase, nowhere in the listing was this even visible or advertised in the description

Wow! Pretty nice when people throw in an extra item that's could be worth twice as much as the item you purchased. A boxed Music Quest clone card with a Music Quest branded adapter... very nice! 😀
Now for some blitting from the back buffer.
debs3759 wrote on 2021-01-14, 23:15:Has that Tseng card got an FCC ID on it?
It probably has, but since this is the only photo that I have of the card, it was hard to find out.
But on the upper edge of the PCB there's a model number: 3081. In combination with the "Ara" VGA BIOS chip, it's more than likely to be this FCC ID: https://fccid.io/H3Z3081
However, there's literally nothing to be found on the internet about this card except for the FCC page.
The closest match is the "Optima 1024" card (Ara 3071 with Tseng ET3000), probably the predecessor of the 3081: http://www.amoretro.de/2013/01/optima-1024-mo … -512kb-isa.html
However, it should play along nicely with the 386 board - if it still works at all.
EDIT:
After digging a bit more, I found two eBay auctions for the 3081 and the 3091 card, the latter being almost identical to the 3081.
So there's the 3071 (Photo by Amoretro):

it's not even a clone, it is a music quest card (can barely see it in the picture, top right)
though I couldn't find a lot of info on this specific revision, apart from it also being sold by opcode apparently.
Just won this on E-bay - she's going to need a LOT of work, but I figure it's a good challenge. Plus this means I'll have all the subjects for my next video on the Versa PC-4xx series history on my YouTube channel. Even comes with the original 2LB Power Supply, 🤣.
1993 NEC Versa UltraLite
Unless I run into a good Versa V between here and February that's not $100+ I'm going to just stick with what I've got because that should cover it for the video.

- Some mystery ISA interface card, looks like a PS/2 mouse connector or something. Labelled "HS - 3000 REV2", haven't found any useful info on a quick first attempt.
Possibly a Bus Mouse interface card.

Already arrived. Nothing to complain here 😀 I am asking myself why this 8-bit card is called "AT", there should be no reason why it shouldnt run on a XT?
Also ordered these from that lot...
sweet :3
I'l just have to make do with my "surprise" music quest card x3

In case this is interesting to anyone. I seem to have, what appears to be, a newer revision of these cards.
Nice ! weird it has only one clock crytal.
Hate posting a reply and then have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. Stuff: https://archive.org/details/@horun
Probably in case the card's inserted into an EISA slot, it'll down clock the GPU to prevent it from overclocking and burst into flames.
But, that's just my guess.

ok, quick update on the nforce 2 motherboard.
it got through 50h of memtest86, just fine:
So onto prime95. Unfortunately, at first it was unstable, with prime95 reporting hardware errors.
Since I am actually overclocking the CPU, that isn't too unexpected. So I've bumped up core voltage to 1.75V (vs 1.65V stock) and it now run for 10 hours no crashes so far.
Now, I will leave it for the rest of the weekend, hopefully no more crashes. Then one more update and I'll stop dragging this topic off-topic.

Awesome!
Maybe I'm a glutton for punishment but I've been looking at some nforce2 boards on ebay... I just might pick up a brand I've never had before to see if I can actually have a stable nforce2 board for the first time ever.
But then I remember throwing out and smashing so many of those old ones and I end up closing the tab.

This particular board was stripped out of an old computer grabbed off the classified (gumtree).
Its a way to get stuff that hasn't been excessively fondled with ... but with the provision that some of it will be broken trash!

Looks like a great website but unfortunately not much use here in Canada.

I'm so glad you did this, because I was very tempted to do it myself. Mostly because I love my NF7-S 2.0 system and it has been rock solid for nearly 18 years... I felt like I had to defend its honor or something. 🤣
In all seriousness, I can't explain why some have had such reliability issues with nforce 2 boards while others have not. Lets all just be glad current PCs aren't like they were back in the early 2000s, at least stability wise.
I will say though, this board was a replacement. The first one had a temperature alarm issue out of the box where it would shut down with a "beedoo beedoo beedoo" at startup. I recall reading that it was a known problem with the early boards, and may have been related to overly sensitive voltage or heat protection features when overclocking (which I definitely was... and boy was I a noob). After RMAing it though (maybe twice???) they sent me one that never did that a single time, and has been perfect ever since, even with a heavily overclocked CPU.
