Hi there, can I pick your brain a bit on the T3200 floppy drives? I have two T3200, both with non working FD's. I haven't opened the floppy drives yet to try a fix.
Is the below cap the only one to replace?
Would it be 4.7µF and 35V?
I have read threads where the floppy is said to have "caps", so I'm not sure right now. Is there anything else to check or replace in the floppy while I'm at it?
Many thanks in advance,
Tom
Yes as Tiido said, there are three problem caps. The one shown, being the worst one and the other two are on a different board inside the drive. You have to remove the second board from inside the drive to access them.
I unfortunately I didn't take pictures of the other two. But they are not surface mount so they are a bit easier to work with. They are a different value but I don't remember what that is.
If you see absolutely no corrosion on the board anywhere what so ever, even in the most minor way, it might be worth replacing the caps, but it's still no guarantee. In the picture, even though it is hard to see any damage around the cap, the pads and the pins on the nearby chip were corroded all away. The corrosion traveled inside the PCB.
As far as I know that is the primary failure mode for these floppy drives.
