Took the time tonight to listen to some of my favorites video games midi soundtrack using the McFly. I was reading the sparkfun documentation matze79 provided and the adafruit breakout board documentation while doing so. I'm not sure what kind of synthesizer it could be internally. The fact that midi require exclusive mode from the chip with shared function to pcm compression might hint on the kind of technique it use to create midi sound. That they made the effort to include this minimal midi format with a list of pcm audio codec in exclusive mode make me wonder what usage scenario they had in mind when developing that chip.

All in all it was a very fun experience and want to thank you for making that board on convenient waveblaster format, dreamblaster! Having different chip allow to discover the music we favor again in new ways. On rott_019.mid I never noticed before the sweeps that fades in now and then around the end of the music.

The green led is a nice touch, I couldn't help myself but take a picture of it. Does the blue edition has a blue led ?

I'm not sure but I think this IC was designed to drive these mp3 players/portable multimedia players that were smashed on the marked when smartphones weren't that common. I read the Datasheet and the Features would match that scenario but it's just a guess. (It's capable of encoding and decoding several standards and also offers an earphone driver)
