I'm glad that Amazon has been including more remakes of classic games lately. For me, that's much better than all of those hidden object games. I don't even bother redeeming those.

Just checked and Steam isn't required to run the game.

I do see libwinpthread-1.dll so it's likely bare minimum Windows XP compatible but if compiled with a newer mingw-w64 then likely just Vista or 7 at a minimum.

It does state the following in the whatsnew but I don't see the older SDL.dll so likely old information or it's just referring to GDI\Windib\<=D3D9

"The original pixel-based SDL1 backend is still supported
for older or more obscure systems."

So, can you install it without Steam? The links I see all refer to running the Steam installers?
I do have the DOS original, so that is not really an issue for me, but I wonder if Steam should be listed as required in the submission I made for Mobygames.

You can't install anything without Steam since Steam "installs" the games, all you get are the files.

For this game just copying the files elsewhere and executing the game works so apparently no installer is needed.

Everything I download from online stores I make a backup of and crack it. Only way to win is not to play since the games are constantly being modified and add/remove features and DRM and OS compatibility.

Unfortunately you have different opinions on DRM, the "crazies" consider having to download the game via the launcher as DRM which I can't wrap my head around. Having to download a game via the launcher is not DRM (it's shitty but it's not DRM). Even if you could download it via ftp/sftps/ftps/http/https (without the launcher) then that should still qualify as DRM in their mind but it isn't, they only consider having to download the game via the launcher as DRM. 🙄

the game is now ported to Windows

Huh? The original open-source project which I linked to above already supports Windows -- only the proprietary release of Star Control II was for DOS, but IIRC, TUQM is based off the 3DO release.

Correct, but there are settings to use the interface and assets from the PC version. More information here: https://wiki.starcontrol.com/index.php/Version_Comparison

As of March 5th, 2024 WarnerBrothers Discovery has 'retired' Small Radios Big Televisions from both Steam and Playstation 4 stores.

Copy & paste link. It will automatically download.

It is still $11.99 on the Steam store.

Links to games on the developer’s website aren’t allowed?

This reminds me of when Sunside Games released most of their titles for free including the Abducted beta.

Thanks for reminding me. Just picked up the Tomato Jones freebie over there. Hilarious game.

I guess I will give a weekly visit there from now on
