Is it possible to redirect DOSBox 0.65's MIDI output to the virtual sound card Yamaha XG WDM Soft Synthesizer?

he he

I *don't* know anything about the Yamaha XG WDM Soft Synthesizer but if that is usable in Windows as a midi device then check your dosbox.conf and the README about the midi section.

[midi]
# mpu401 -- Type of MPU-401 to emulate: none, uart or intelligent.
# device -- Device that will receive the MIDI data from MPU-401.
# This can be default,alsa,oss,win32,coreaudio,none.
# config -- Special configuration options for the device. In Windows put
# the id of the device you want to use. See README for details.

mpu401=intelligent
device=win32
config=0

Uhm, what software under DOSBox would you suggest I use to test it to hear the difference between my default MIDI output and the virtual Yamaha board?
I tried some random games but I couldn't hear any difference so far, so I think I'm trying not suitable ones.

perhaps yor default midi output is the same as the yamaha? 😀
Seriously, in Windows, open the Windows audio settings and check whether the yamaha or another device is the default outpout for midi.

I missed that in the docs.

mixer /listmidi
0. "YAMAHA XG WDM SoftSynthesizer"
1. "Sint. SW Microsoft GS Wavetable"

Yamaha thing is now set in Windows as the MIDI output device.

I'll give a better look to the docs about how to use the mixer

okay, by changing the config line in the midi section of Dosbox.conf:
[midi]
mpu401=intelligent
device=win32
config=0
to 1 you will be using the MS GS Wavetable and midi should sound different. 0 will be back to the yamaha.
