So far it seems like all of the exes won't run in DOS mode.. I am stuck and a newb to DOS'ing..

Er, what?

If you tried running the program(s) from the command line and they gave you messages stating "This program cannot be run in DOS mode", then that's because they're supposed to be run under Windows.

Start over from the beginning. What exactly are you trying to do? What error messages are you getting? What made you think you needed to try DOS mode?
