In the video games world it seems like a lot of the really rare or interesting stuff gets immediately funnelled down a black hole into some secretive recluse's stash and never seen by the public again. That's a huge shame.

Thanks. And here we're not (yet) rating and enclosing stuff in plastic containers and then listing them for 3 x the price. So I would say this hobby is (still) quite practical, after all. Nothing against those who enjoy doing that, though. But the stuff I buy I actually do want to play with some day 😎

That's a good advice. Just too many detectives around I see 🤣

I'm happy you're happy. As long as you treat her with respect, you're alright in my book.

Of course, this is another feature which will have to be added to the theoretical ultimate sound card, along with SB16 support, SB Pro support, GUS support, persistent SF2 wavetable loads from Windows and DOS, Covox and DSS support, PAS support, clean intelligent mode MPU-401 functionality, and SPDIF I/O.

Obviously, we're talking about a full length card, here.

Well, I am going to have about 2 dozen 8-bit and 16-bit ISA sound cards coming my way.

Found somebody who had a stash from years ago. Guessing with the 5 or 6 8-bit slot cards I am getting my money's worth even though I paid significantly more for this lot than I have for any other large lot. I don't know the specifics of any of the cards in this lot, but even if I have copies of most of the cards already I should be able to make my money back selling the ones I don't want.

The only 8-bit slot cards I currently have are:
Sound Blaster 2.0
Aztech BX-II
Mediavision Thunderboard
Adlib clone
Tecmar Arpa PC Stereo Board

Can anybody identify this? Seem to be a Dual Pentium-1 with PCI and EISA? Photo is unfortunately too bad to see the condition...but I think these board should be quite rare and worth to try?

It's an older model. I think it's probably an Asus. Looks like it uses the Neptune chipset, which means it's a Socket 5 board. The fastest on these is generally 133, but sometimes you can get away with 166. Dual Pentium is definitely not common. I'd keep it.

Yes I have found a Dual P1 from ASUS

https://www.asus.com/Microsite/mb/ASUSMB1st/T … CI-I-P54NP4.jpg

But its rather different and has no EISA.

Think I will try to buy it, keep this board and another one and sell the remaining parts again....

I've heard of dual Pentium Pro (Socket 8 ) motherboards, but a dual Socket 5 motherboard? That's amazing, yet rare. Plus, you're right about the brown slots under the PCI slots. Those are EISA (ISA slots were either black or white). I believe Windows NT can run on a dual-CPU setup, but that depends on the instruction sets and service pack (SP6a is recommended).

Well this is the last PC that I had my eye on for my collection. I had a good friend that owned one of these while I was stuck on my XT so I always wanted to have one myself. I think I got a good deal on this even though it looks like I'm going to have to repair the monitor, hopefully he was being truthful when he told what happened to it and it just needs a recap.

What do you guys think? I think that the monitor and the PC could each go for 500-600 each in good working condition. Not that I intend to sell these items anyways so it really doesn't matter:

Eh, not bad. I've seen one going for almost $1,000 in poor condition on the outside, but clean on the inside. There's another one that doesn't have the original board, rather a clone board and a bad PSU.

Got this Asus P3B-F Rev. 1.04 board off Ebay recently to replace an SE440BX-2 which sadly couldn't get working with a P3 850 based system mainly due to power supply issues. Hopefully I'll get my V2's to work with it - see post else where.

Not a GeForce4 Ti4800SE but a real Ti4600 (I hope) or Ti4400. And cheap too!

Heh, I got tripped by one of these in my PowerMac G4 build. I completely didn't realize there were damn-near-identical 4400 and 4600 variants of this card. Spent a good hour trying to flash an incompatible ROM and wondering WTF it wasn't working.

If you take it apart could you post some pictures of what those fans look like on their own? I'd like to revert my card to a more stock-looking cooling setup if I ever find some compatible fans.

Leadtek's Ti4400, Ti4600 and Ti4800SE look very much the same (as far as I know they have never made a Ti4800, at least I can't find one on Google) because the cards have the same dimensions with the same dual fan cooler. The Ti4400 and Ti4600 even seem to use the same capacitors on the same places, but the Ti4600 is the ultra version (it should have a sticker stating that). I believe the fan is ca. 40x40x5mm, but I have thrown my Ti4800SE's fans away because they were nasty. You can however install a third party cooler, which is what I'm going to do. Furthermore you'll need to replace some GSC capacitors if you want to use the card.

I don't know yet what I'll get because the picture is from the seller 😊

Now huge discounts on custom made, clean, tested, retro game pc's.

Good old illegible sticker lottery. 😜 I bet anything the 4400 & 4600 are exactly the same PCB,, just with the chip swapped.

Yeeeeeep, mine has a couple bulgy caps but I'm probably just gonna do all of them. There aren't many there and they're fairly easy to get at. Still works though.

Well, somebody wanted rid of an old computer and I said I'd take because they were heading for the local council tip, its Windows 7 version something, a 2x AMD Phenom HP Tower with 8GB Ram, not fired it up yet as because I wanted the 22 inch Monitor on a Video Editing machine I built, and then there was the pleasant surprise of an immaculate Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K, complete with thermal printer that he was about to throw away...

So, even if you're distracted by some other event you're attending, always, always, accept the offer of an old computer nobody wants anymore...

I've heard of dual Pentium Pro (Socket 8 ) motherboards, but a dual Socket 5 motherboard?

I think they were somewhat common in servers. Afrer all Pentium Pro was released only in 1995.

Got this Asus P3B-F Rev. 1.04

Usually this board is bulletproof and also have 2 ISA slot configuration.

Recently got this Geforce3 V8200 Deluxe seen here: https://www.ebay.com/itm/ASUSTeK-...

I noticed they were using the images from the VGA Legacy site, and lucked out that the model I got came with all the TV out connectors which I need to go with the box/glasses/etc. that I already have.

Also found this AT computer for only $6 at a thrift store! First one I've seen in the wild in a couple of years as this stuff is getting scarce. 😢

Unfortunately it freezes right before searching for a drive (after displaying the PCI/ISA device lists), so I have some troubleshooting to do.

For that price the case alone is more than worth it, regardless of what's in it and whatever does or doesn't work. I'm finding AT cases a bigger challenge than pretty much anything to go in them or peripherals (CRTs and serial mice are everywhere, by comparision).

Go into the BIOS and try to see if HDD detection also locks up. That sounds like a case of motherboard not playing well with large HDD.

That is a pretty damn good deal. Re-capping these systems is par for the course. It's not a big deal. And before anyone says the shipping is high, it ISN'T. These machines are heavy AF.

It is a mistake to think you can solve any major problems just with potatoes.
