The links and images aren't working for me somehow. The ET4000/w32p VLB card is the best card for both Windows and DOS. I get pretty good framerates in DOS games with a 133MHz CPU (using that CPU in my Packard Bell and will set the cache to WT on it now since the turbo shortcut keys don't work, except for cache controlling software).

I took a gamble on a Chinese seller and purchased one from there. Seems to be in good shape physically and stable thus far. The real measure of success will be time - but I don't plan to go to crazy with overclocking it. I just wanted a COVID project so I performed this and some other upgrades on my T61 laptop. I wrote up a whole Word doc on the experience and I'll post it on VOGONS next week sometime. A fun, and sometimes challenging project but the laptop has been running cool and quiet, humming along with a (now) undervolted NVIDIA GPU and 1.0875v Core 2 Extreme running at 2.8Ghz in the high 30's to mid 40's at idle and with TPFanControl it really never gots hotter than 55C at load. Pretty impressive and a nice boost from the 65nm T7300.

For sure - it's a solid card and increasingly difficult to find these days. This one popped up in my search and a nabbed it as quick as my fingers would allow me.

so that seems to be the only way I guess ^^, might I ask which seller? there are a whole bunch and some of them aren't really chip sellers.

Wowah, wait a minute - there is a faster upgrade for my IBM T61 Thinkpad that goes beyond the T7800 I'm currently using? Can the motherboard handle the current requirements? Did you check the VRM output spec on the motherboard to ensure that too short of time won't kill the VRM or motherboard when using the SLAZ3 2.8Ghz/6M? I'm still using the T61. It sits on the kitchen counter. The damn WiFi kept cutting out, so I'm using a PCMCIA card now. I had previously replaced the internal WiFi with the latest Intel offerings that would work with XP, but it too died in short order (about 4 months of use).

In order to add another chipset to the list and finally have a complete test of Tualatin-capable chipsets in Win2K, I just put in an order for a NOS Chaintech 6VJD, based on the ViaPro266DDR :d.

It will not beat the BX, probably. But no scientific study is complete if all possibilities are not explored.

Yeah, a VIA 266 Pro board is definitely required for that comparison.

A few days ago I got a Roland D-10 for free from a friend of mine.
After cleaning and replacing the battery it works like new.
I doubt I can do anything with it related to DOS gaming though. Or would it be MT-32 compatible with a few tricks?

Received my first Super Socket 7 mainboard a few days ago, an EPOX EP58-MVP3C-M, which I decided to test today. It came with RAM, Pentium MMX 233MHz CPU and CL5446 PCI VGA. I fired it up and it worked just fine. Booted from a floppy disk. I had already downloaded the manual and the latest BIOS for it, so I flashed the BIOS, which seemed to go just fine. But apparently that was a bad idea.... the board won't boot anymore. 🙁
Now I'll have to find a way program another BIOS chip, which is tricky without an EPROM programmer.
I had planned to test all the Pentium, Cyrix and AMD K6/K6-2 CPUs I have kept in box for years....

I know you're already being helped by some fantastic VOGONS, but, if you have an Ethernet NIC with a ROM socket on it, that might work as an EEPROM programmer. Certain NIC chipsets can be used with ROM flashing utilities, like FlashROM.

Local guy has an old Compaq P4 tower for $15, has bad/missing HD but otherwise works/boots. Includes original keyboard and ms mouse. Told em I was interested so will go meet somewhere later today.

EDIT: Not a Compaq, actually not a bad little machine. Will post specs later after I clean it up a bit...

Hate posting a reply and have to edit it because it made no sense 😁 First computer was an IBM 3270 workstation with CGA monitor. 🤣 Second computer a 286 12Mhz with real IDE drive ! After that came 386, 486, Pentium, P.Pro and everything after....

Oh man, that brings back a lot of memories. I had the D-20 which adds a floppy drive and 8-track sequencer. It was a very versatile workstation. Your D-10 looks like new condition. Very nice!

I've got one of those 😀 cute little machine. Can probably be upgraded to a K6-III although I've not investigated. The 500 is good anyway, as the 350 and 400MHz parts are much more common. Makes a good Voodoo 3 DOS gaming machine. Can't remember what the built-in audio is but I seem to remember it being OPL3? Anyway, have fun!

I bought this NOS ASUS MediaBus VGA/Audio card without even owning a MediaBus motherboard. It's just so strange that I had to have it for my collection: S3 Vision868 and Creative Vibra16 (and OPL3) on the same card. Maybe one day I'll build a system around it.
