Is this possible?

I don't have a exernal audio mixer, but was hoping I could use the line-in from the soundcard and have this also recorded while using DOSBox!

You could just use an external program to record off the "What U Hear" source of your sound card (if applicable) and then replace the audio track of the video recording.

Or you could use an external program to record off the line-in source and then mix that recording with the audio track.

The reason I am looking for another solution is because it's a bit of a pain when you put the video together. Especially syncing the audio track....

But it looks like I have no choice. I am using a netbook with a USB soundcard for recording at the moment. The quality is great, but the audio syncing is difficult as often you have no reference points.

Make the external program and DOSBx start the recording through the same hotkey. If the other program doesn't support changing thehotkey, Dosbox does. In theory you should be able to get an almost in sync audio.

dosbox itself doesn't support it. nor do I see it as something we should support.
think something like dominus suggests should work.

Yea the external program is on another machine 😀

I might see if fraps is still giving me this stutter issue with DOSBox. Fraps allows you to also record from your mic.

Otherwise I will just have to sync the audio track manually.

Do a "software clapperboard" - run a program in DOSBox before your main program that flashes the screen for one frame and plays a very short but loud "click" sound at the same time. Then you should be able to sync things nicely.

It should be easy enough to do something like this in QBASIC or GWBASIC.

Yea or use something obvious in the game, like shooting a weapon or something like that...

And I can always just do another quick recording with SB instead of Roland sound and just compare that footage with what I have in the video editor until it sounds right!

Yea I should be ok. Thanks for all the tips guys!

Update: I will use Fraps. It can record video and audio from the line input! Will save me quite a bit of work...
