So a month ago I found a Compaq Athlon 64 dual core system outside by the "grofvuil" ("Bulky waste"), including a wide-screen monitor. Although I really don't have the room for it in my apartment, I couldn't help myself, and grabbed it.
The screen was in reasonable condition, and worked well, with a crisp image, even though it had only VGA input for video. It did have integrated speakers, so I ended up using it for my test/hobby system.
The case was absolutely disgusting, both inside and out. It felt grimy all over, and there appeared to have been some kind of fluid damage inside. I don't even want to know what caused it.
I decided to gut the case, taking out all the components (including the backplate and even the Windows Vista license sticker), and then I got rid of the case. The system was lacking a hard drive, but was otherwise complete.
I tested the components and everything appears to be working fine. I installed everything in a (clean) ATX case, and it's a complete and working system again. I'm just not sure what to do with it now. I don't really need it, and I'm not sure if anybody else would be interested in it. I've opened a dedicated thread about this. Curious to see if anybody would be interested in what appears to be a fairly unremarkable system from around 2008.
