I have a returning problem, as long as I remember, I had Problems finding the appropriate drivers for PCI based SoundBlaster cards.

I own two exact same cards, called SoundBlaster Live! 5.1 Type SB0100 Code: ven_1102&dev_0002

According to support.creative.com it is this card: link, it looks like that card indeed.

There are 2 drivers there one driver only (same driver for almost all Live! cards), that one will install but after a reboot Still so sound. And the other one, called "Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Standalone Web Release for Windows 95/98/98se/ME", tells me that I don't have a SoundBlaster installed.

Also found this thread: link, but those links are dead.

On Windows XP, got dual boot, the card is working fine out of the box. So whit default MS drivers, although I miss some functions.

As I remember, back in the days I had my own PC shop, I had a lot second hand of Soundblaster PCI cards, and always problems finding the appropriate driver.

Fair use/fair dealing exception

Think have best results whit package 9 and 12, because the SB0100 is especially mentioned in those two.

Crap-a-zoid. what the f... is that whit SoundBlaster cards?

I didn't get the card running well. The most drivers does not work. One worked, as it seems, but.. Booting up took about 20-30 seconds longer. After that I had audio on Windows and Dos. Tested it whit some dos games, but some strange effects occurred. Like winamp took about 20 seconds to play the music, some windows games had no sound and crashed (like Blood 2 and FutureCop LAPD). So I started dxdiag, and got error message on sound. So somehow the driver is not DirectX compatible. The webinstaller keeps telling me that i don't have a Sb 5.1Live! installed in my system.

Than I had it... went trough the pile of old hardware I own, searching for other soundcard, and found a SB Audigy EAX, including the original CD. So I uninstalled the Live! software (as good as the buildin uninstaller does this, even that is crap, leaves lot behind, even the DOS entry in autoexec.bat), than swapped the card, inserted the CD and voilà, it worked. Did not tested DOS programs yet, but I already planned to build a DOS only Computer. Booting is now faster again, Starting winamp takes less than a second, and I could play the games.
