No idea why SI doesn't have its own photos?

I got a Derrick Coleman DC photo scanned off from a flatbed scanner way back in 1992.....
I looked the web site of SI vault to find a match.
The photo was DC shooting over Horace Grant...
No way I can find it....
I also got one that Shaq blocking Michael Jordan which was an after block and was very stunning...
Third one is Richard Dumas taking a jump shot over MJ.
Forth is Dikembi Mutombo taking a full cover over Grant Long of Miami with a spectacular clean block
I also got one that Pippen laying up over Rony Seikaly.
None of these were found.
I just wonder why?

Possibly because the original photographers retained the rights to the images, and SI was unable to negotiate an agreement that would allow them to host the images online. Or maybe their archivists just messed up. Hardly a deep mystery.

Why don't you contact them and ask them, rather than inviting strangers on an old-computers forum to speculate?
